View Full Version : 996 Fuel Pump Doesnt Prime - Help
My 996 fuel pump doesn't prime now when the ignition is turned on. Is there a common issue that causes this, before I start digging about? I haven't done anything at all to the bike since I last rode it.
Cheers

try the relay first
other problems have been traced to the through connector in the pump assemble or the fuel pump itself.

Is there a dedicated relay for the fuel pump or is it shared with another circuit?

Its one of the big ones under the riders seat, there are two identical ones next to each other iirc.

I would still permanently bypass the side stand switch Ant mentioned.
Easy job. :)

Nope no alarm.

Is there any chance you can hook it up to a diagnostics system and check the switches?
On a recent Hypermotard rebuild we couldn't get it to start at all - the starter button was dead. We checked through everything and couldn't figure it out so in the end we hooked it up to the JPDiag (free download) diagnostics and saw that the kill switch was engaged regardless of the position! Some rapid flicking of the kill switch saw it start to change and we then got it running.

I'll certainly see if that's a possibility.
Cheers for that.

quick update - The fault turned out to be one of the two relays under the seat. I borrowed some of my friends to fault find with.

Glad you got it sorted!
But I've said it before and I'll say it again - relays should be an item that gets replaced during the major service as they often fail like this. It's really odd that Ducati don't tell their service centres to do this and make a few extra £££s at the same time!

I bought 2 so I'm ready for the next one to go :-)
