Mrs Rockhopper (aka Lynn) is having her first bike lesson on saturday. Shes done loads of miles on the back of mine and tonight shes been sitting on it in the garage practicing with the clutch and gears etc.
I'm sure she'd appreciate your best wishes as she's a little bit nervous to say the least!!
Shes managed to find a female instructor which is what convinced her to go for it.
Any hints and tips would also be handy!!
Hi Mrs Rockhopper!:)
Best of luck with it. I took mine with a mad bunch of blokes - was fun & educational too. Just DONT listen to hubby, listen to instructor till you have done the test. Then unlearn some - and listen to hubby again.:D
What bike you going to have when you
pass?
Have fun!
C
note to Rock hopper - dont offer any help/tips etc - wait to be asked:D
best of luck to ya mrs rockhopper.:saint:
is this for a cbt then direct access?
Mrs Rockhopper, go for it girl, and don't listen to Paul-none of us do.
My partner Jo is intending to do her test-maybe this year. The more ladies we have on bikes the better.

Cheers John!!
Shes doing direct access so i guess its CBT first then out on the road.
She fancies a Monster so if any one knows of a good one for sale for around the £1500 to £2000 mark then we might be interested.

LOL, i agree, friend of mine, she's an instructor. She did other halfs son's CBT. She said, don't offer him any advice, maybe show him clutch, brakes etc. Give him the advice after CBT.
Best 'o luck Mrs Rockhopper.
My other half has been talking about doing her test as well. She's taken a shine to a VFR400! Although i suggested a Monster 600/620, as it won't be used that often, ie everyday bike. (kids 2 school etc)
Go for it!

Cant believe some of the insurance quotes we have been getting. £154 tpft on a 900 monster with zero no claims and zero years experience on a bike over 600cc plus an SP30!! £350 fully comp on the same bike!!
Also just had a quote of £550 fully comp on a 996bip!
Cheap as chips.

Hi good luck Mrs Rockhopper
I passed two years ago and ain't looked back...
'cept when doing shoulder checks, Mr Instructor Sir
Please ring Ducati Insurance - advertising in Pronto - got a brilliant quote from them for myself. In fact try both insurance companies and see for yourself!

Mrs rockhopper is not that nervous, it's Mr rockhopper who is!! Think he's worried I might have designs on his bike. Let you all know how I get on tomorrow. ;)
Go for it Lynn:cool:
when you have passed, get a run-a-round for this summer, then really hack Mr Rockhopper off, by getting a bigger/faster bike than his:lol::lol: (I've just done this:devil:)
Best of luck - and dont listen to him indoors!

A good tip that Vman, its almost happened to me a few times!
My missus Helen wanted me to add her tip to Mrs Rockhopper...... She did her bike test in '96 and we have a notorious roundabout here that if you get in the wrong lane on you get an automatic fail ..... Helen was in the wrong lane, checked she was clear to change lanes and consequently passed test on 1st attempt..... she asked examiner why and he said he passed her solely cause she checked she was safe to change lanes!!! Moral of my long winded story..... If you make a mistake DON'T PANIC, remember osmpsl ( if they still use that ) and you may just get a pass !
Good luck from us both!!!:D

I can almost feel a female forum starting in the DSC - (but wont make any other comments :D ).....
Good luck with the test, I think lady riders are much better pupils than guys generally as they pay more attention - I'd say study the highway code generally and understand the concepts behind it and all the road signs as I still think almost any question can be asked from it.
Its funny - I was only thinking the other day about the tips I was given as a new rider many years ago :).....
I did wonder if anyone had any one-liner tips to pass on.....these are two of the ones I always remember for some reason:
1) Never accelerate into a closing gap!
2) Everyone on the road really is trying to kill you - so ride to avoid them !!
Severe I know but very true.
Cheers - Frank

Well the CBT is all done and dusted! They also did a couple of hours on the road. I think she will be ringing up on sunday to sort out some lessons. At least i hope she will. Blooming cold day to be out riding though.
That second tip about everyone on the road trying to kill you is one that i have always used myself and so far its worked!
Hopefully she will be on a bit later to tell you all about it.

well,I did my cbt and was so chuffed that i'm only just recovering from the hangover (sorry Paul)
Day went so quick it was brill. Did'nt drop the bike or make a totally wally of myself. Best bit was actually getting out on the road. That felt so much better than being in the yard with a brick wall in front of me. That had a definite psychological effect on me!!On the road I felt reasonably safe with Kim the instructor following and giving guidance in the earpiece.
Am sorting out lessons now so hopefully it wont be too long before i'm fully mobile. (My mother was gobsmacked when i told her. Thinks I,m having a midlife crisis)

I bought Mrs R a CBT course for her birthday last month but she's waiting for warmer weather first!
I keep telling her that a nice 600 Monster would keep the ST company quite well.

Spent a bit of time today hunting around various web sites trying to find info about bike tests.
Now that Lynn has done the CBT she only needs to do the theory test and then the road test? When i did it i had to do part one (cones) then part two (road). If shes doing direct access do they still have the two part test? I dont think that CBT covers the same kind of things as the old part one used to, for example they didnt to the figure of eight.
Paul - get Mrs R/H to do the theory asap. Then all she has to do is the direct access - either a 2/3/4/5 day course.
The test is then about 40+ mins, with a short Q & A after.
No 'parts 1 & 2' now.
Lynn - get revising asap:cool:
Best of luck,
C

Ck is right Lynn...I think I have my Theory CD somewhere so I'll pass it on to Rock for you...Get it booked ASAP. Now you have done the CBT all you need to do is the 3 day. Do a few Sundays Practising control so you are used to the weight and clutch control...most accidents happen at standstill or at junctions when moving slowly. You'll have no probs! Good luck!
