I want to fit a K&N air filter to my 95ss.
Q: Does the filter fit into the box were the original filter fits or is it one of those that fit directly to the carb itself?
Q:Do I need to mess about with jets and things?
Q: What is the K&N model number for my bike?

The filter fits in the airbox, replacing the original unit.
You'll probably get away without rejetting, although you'd see more benefits from a Dynojet kit. Not necessary though.
Part number is DU-0900

The K&N filter fits in the same way as the original but the cover has to be cut to let the air at it leaving nothing but a surround that holds the filter in place. Try and leave a bit extra of the cover at the front, just enough to stop water drips going into the filter tray. The difference fitting this filter and opening up the airbox makes is graet. The induction roar is fantastic, much better than my 748. For best results you should get K&N jets fitted as well and some fruity race cans. The filter you want is the DU-0900 and the jet kit is 81-9212, according to the K&N site for a 750. The 900 takes the 81-9214 jet kit. Dynojet do kits as well. For the 750 the numbers are DJZ-7203 and the 900 are DJZ-7201.

Ive got a spare airbox cover if you want to keep your original in original condition, that way you can cut a b;**dy great big opening to let the k+n have full benefits
P+P and a beer is all it'd cost if you want!

SSTU is right when he says the induction roar is great
btw Nelly, will the 2000 ssie filter cover fit a 95ss??

I'll attach a piccy of the back end of mine to show what an evenings work with a cordless drill can do -

I didnt realise the 'trumpets' were missing on my airbox until I read this thread - but nevermind, more weight saved.

Mine came with a K+N fitted already but I would of bought one straight away simply as they can be cleaned and re-oil, try Nelly first but I got my cleaner and oil kit from :

PDQ Developments (http://www.pdq1.co.uk/)

If u can afford it - I think in hind sight (a wonderful thing) I recommend going to a good tuning centre that has a dyno with a gas analyser, get them to fit your K+N and dynojet kit and then if there are any 'tweaks' that need doing (eg if the jets are a little out for your bike) they should sort it all out for you.......

Sadly, I think you will be looking at £250 ish for all this to be done but hopefully, it would be worth it.....

Cheers - Frank

For Mort.

Thanks for the offer but my SS will never return to stock, far too much done to it! Will never sell either, no chance of getting the money back that has been spent ever.

Hmmmm - tried to find a 'reputable' tuning centre I'd heard of in Manchester - no result !!! Sorry about that.....

So I tried looking in the Dynojet website

http://www.dynojet.co.uk

and there is somewhere listed for both Stockport and Barnsley but I aint hear dof either of them - but the latter does have a dynojet 200 machine....

Might be worth giving them a buzz.

Does the 1995 model 900ss have carbs? I thought the injected models started from 97 but I been wrong plenty b4:lol:

Good luck - Frank

LOL - Cheers Kev...

I've been on Chris's CA website many times in the past and sent him a few emails as well - cool guy.

I will move up to Dyna Coils at sometime but have quite a few toys to keep me busy for the meantime, steering damper, gear indicator, building up front Marchesini and getting new front tyres for a start off.......I've also got my eyes on a hi-rise handle bar kit as well, just to ease my poor aching back - LOL.

So my poor long-suffering 944ss will be with me for sometime yet...we've been though too much already and I'm starting to think that if I'm ever cut.....

I really do bleed - DUCATI RED -

Cheers - Frank

Yes Frank
The 95 model has carbs .
I checked out the link you put in for dinojets it works out at 75.20 for my bike. Now let me get this straight I buy a D.J kit and take it to one of these places and they will fit it and tune the bike for a fee. :(

steering damper!! Does it make you go quicker, and why fit one? Are you suffering from hi speed wobbles?
Id also be interested in how you found the hi rise bars, at my age %% yrs young, (or maybe that should be OLD) I could do wiff anything to ease me poor back
u2u me with costs for damper and bars and where you are going to get them from. Maybe we could get a discount if there were 2 or more buying at same time

btw have added attachment showing mine, the 2nd post tonight will be very large, so be patient as I cant remember how I shrunk the first piccie to user friendly size
and SSTU, as you say, it aint going back to standard, nor mine either
All
know anyone wants standard zorsts?? going cheap.

SSTU,

If you go to the Dynojet centre you simply pay them loadsa money and they will provide, fit and then tune your bike to fit your requirements (hopefully).

The stage 1 dyno kit does state a free flowing air filter I believe - so you may need to supply your own K+N air filter unless your dynojet centre can supply one.

The dynojet centre should have both a dyno and gas analysis machines so they can check the gas mixture of your bike right through the rev range.

The advantage in doing it this way is that you can leave your bike with them - that way if the carbs need to come off more than once (it does happen !!!) then its probably easier for them to do.

The only thing that has just struck me is that before doing all this any necessary maintenance item (cam belt adjust, rocker adjust, timing, carb balance, plug change etc. etc should really be done BEFORE all this is done - sorry more expense I know).

Good Luck - keep us informed pls

Steering damper....

Yep I do indeed get a shimmy every now on then and only one one piece of road that I'm starting to go a little (ahem) faster on.

See my previous posts - £100 for a TOBY 20 position damper from BFM Tyres, they are selling them on Ebay starting at £50.

Hi rise bars:
These kits go for stupid prices (+£200) there are some very good ones on the market:

Gilles

Helibars

and even a kit for changing away from the clip-on type bars on my 93 ss - heres one being sold on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2461440748&category=49847&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT&rd=1

However, I'm going my own way (surprise, surprise) by dropping the yokes through the forks a little and fitting flat clip-ons ABOVE the top yoke to give me a slight rise while retaining the clip-on look still. Lenghtening the cables might be required but I have a local shop that can fabricate cables easily - electrics would be a different story however.

ST looks GREAT by the way !!!!

Good luck - Frank

dropping the forks so you can fit clip ons above the headstock, blah dee blah
wot the ferg will that do to the steering geometry
me thinks you'll either turn in so quick, you'd have to wait until half way towards the apex, or turn in so slow, that youd start pullin on the bars 1/2 mile before the bend. dont know which it is, Im sure one of our more learned colleagues will tell soon enuff:o

Hee Hee - yep, I also WANT to speed up the steering which is also what I hope to achieve. I read on a usa website that a guy dropped the yokes by upto 15mm !!!! without too adverse an effect - with the thin clipons I'm looking at I only need about 5 to 8mm - so yep I guess trying the mod first is the right first step tp take.......

My how this thread has changed over time

I have 22mm above the yokes and the handling is good. I'm also considering fitting clip-ons above the yokes but haven't found any suitable yet. At least not at a reasonable price.

Iconic944ss

here are some nice reasonably priced ones - £90 and I think R1 bars are 50mm

I have 18 mm of fork leg showing above the yoke and on the road I had no problems at all. On the track however it led to even worse ground clearance problems to the point where I discovered what it felt like to fly.... :( (Note to self must hang off even more...)

With the rear shock off of a later SS on though (One from an SSie) I didn't experience any problems (On the one outing I had like it). I guess I'll find out for sure once it warms up a bit...

I remember finding a kit that looked good in the M&P catalogue - it is a bolt on 'L' - clamp that allows you to fit your preferred bar choice.....50mm part no is 523314.....

I'll try and fit a piccy in here.

£62.69 inc. seems good to me !!!

happy surfing - Frank
