Removing tank gaurd

Hi
I have a tank gaurd which is coming looseand it has the old glue on the back. I am going to take it off and buy a new one, is there anything good to use for taking off this old glue which sticks to the tank ?

use a hair drfier to heat it up and they normaly come of just ok.

The one I have on now is peeling off and under is the old glue so I was wondering is there anything to take anyglue off that is left on the tank when I remove the gaurd ?

Lighter fluid or ordinary petrol worked for me. Meths might be worth a try.

I brought a stick on tank guard made of real carbon fibre...it was rubbish. The weave wasn't sealed by anything except the backing glue and the fibres quickly started fraying cos they didn't stick in the glue properly.

In fact the only thing that the glue stuck to like a limpet was the paintwork, left big old snotty blobs of it all over...Good old WD40 shifted it.

It does - its just harder work than with petrol if you have got a lot of old adhesive to shift.

Ok! did mine today...Ha ha ha! Nobody mentions trying to get a tankguard off a 12mth old bike tho do they! ta guys!
5 Broken nails later...
Right, use a hairdryer to heat up the glue behind. Prize off, ripping off half the tank gaurd and burn your hands on the hairdryer. Slice off residue of rubber off tank with a tea coaster CD or a trusty plastic windscreen scraper to ensure you do not scratch your tank.
Then scrub with white spirit or WD40 until hands are as dry as a 60 year old ****.
If fitting a second hand rubber (ERRRRR!)
Clean off foam and sticky pads (ERRRRR!)using nail polish remover, removing own nail polish in the process!...Drying out skin and causing dermatitis.
Use black silicone sealer on guard and mirror adhesive strips to secure tank guard in place. BE CAREFUL! Once it sticks it sticks! (thanks for the lack of advice here guys in regards for the width of the silicone bead around the tank guard and how to pull the tank guard to the tank to ensure a snug fit), Here my trusty brown wide sellotape/parcel tape came in handy to pull the pad tight and stick it to the tank!
Will post some pics of my endeavours tomorrow...But now I have worked hard... and deserve a round of applause!:)
