quick techy Q, is there any reason to be worried if compression is higher than standard, eg Haynes says 150-170 lb but is 190 per cyl? Also, will this eefect reliability or make it more pwerful?
Cheers

Are you using a calibrated gauge or could it just have a rather large tolerance. Also engine/oil temp can have a effect on the reading as would tuning work.

not absolutley sure of the level but spoke with garage Friday and they said it was a 'great engine' as the compression test was 'over 190'. This is on an sps, tested during the service/prep stage before I collect. There is a slight flat spot at 4K which they are trying to resolve. Could this be linked and do you reckon this could have been modified?

Ideally need more info on the engine, but a dyno run would give a idea of how it compares to a standard SPS, if its a good bit better then suspect some tuning work.
Either way if it does have a raised compression try to run higher octane fuel like Super Unleaded.

cheers Kev, putting it on the dyno on 27th, we'll see! No possible reliability issues then?
