If I use a socket adaptor (say 1/2" to 3/8" drive) do I have to alter the recommended torque setting of whatever I'm doing up? and by how much?
Or is there a set way of working this out?

Only time you will need to alter torque setting is if you are using an offset adaptor for any reason.

Yep, I'll third that - it won't make a difference.

It's all about the moment around the pivot point, so if the adaptor runs at a right angle through the centre of pivot in the torque wrench then no adjustment is necessary.

Maybe Shazzam will be along to explain the physics of it.... personally I've just finished work and my brain is already fried for the day!
