I've always found the tank pad to be too thick, making the reach to the 'bars more than it need be. When looking at a newer model I noticed that they have a thinner pad.
Anyone know if it's much of a job to swap them or done anything else with the pad ?
Only being 5'8" my arms aren't exactly long !
Cheers. Steve M.:sing:
I did the swap on my 900SSie and it is really simple. Just tear the old one off, remove the glue residues and apply the new, thinner pad. It's as easy as that.

the tank has a blurdy great "hump" in it I guess to locate the tank pad
Its about the size of a goodly marble (from my schuuldays, you see), and I had to replace it wiff an original from Ducati as thinner versions didnt fit
Good luck if you find a thinner one, but I must admit when I replaced mine, the ole crown jwels came to mind first

I replaced the new one on the 750 with an old one off a 900. The new tank pad is thinner and also slightly longer by a couple of milimetres..
I cant say I have had trouble with the reach since changing it...( I'm the same height)
but be warned about the relocater on the tank...It is bigger on the old SS than the new one so you might have to "hollow" the hole a little more.
AND good luck getting the old pad off...
...sigh...I ruined my nails and had terrible skin for days!:P

I wouln't say it made MUCH difference but it was certainly noticable. I replaced my 1998 tank pad with a 2000 one by the way.
