Was going to do a little tune up for the first time on my 996. I was going to order new air filters and oil etc. What do you guys suggest for air filters and oil?

Basically as far as those two areas go, i'm just out to replace them with good stuff. Since this is still my first V Twin, let alone a Ducati as well, I'm just making sure i'm going with the "good stuff" when i do regular maintenance if you know what i mean.

I have just fitted this filter system from JHP can can definitly recomend them on quality and performance, the bike is a 998s mono and the pick up is definitly better than stock.

Shell advance 15 W 50.
The Ducati dealer I use said under no circumstances use 10 W 40 as it does not protect the rocker arms optimally. Did not ask for a more in depth explanation.

As for the brand, Ducati obviously recommend Shell but others may have other better / cheaper alternatives.

I sourced a 50 litre drum of this 15/50 advance, cheaper this way.

And

Changed the oil/filter on a regular basis, virtually when it changed colour...

Andy,

Where did you get the 50 litre drum & what was the cost.

Ok thanks alot guys for the info, very helpful. One last thing, might sound stupid, but this is after all the first v twin or Ducati i've ever owned. Is there a special oil for a v twin? And go synth, half synth or regular oil?

Redline make the best oils, they're used in aerospace and F1
