Hi

I've got a 998s trackbike

Currently run 180 55 rear on a 5.5 inch rim

Thinking of getting some Pirelli Rain wets - would you go for a 180 55 as well.........or are they sized differently.........for some reason I think they are.....but I'm probably wrong...!!

Thanks

Pirelli Diablo Rains in 120/70 and 180/55 should do

Happy to help

I have always found if I haven' got wets its the time when you need them and when you have got them you rarely need them.

When I use to race Formula 600, Powerbike, etc at either the Airfield circuits or the likes of Pembrey where there is no shelter I would arrive at the circuits with the wets fitted, the theory being that if it rained they were already in place and I wouldn't be getting wet fitting them or if it turned out dry I could change to my Rennsports etc also avoiding getting wet.
Changeable weather was a pain whilst in the first two years of NGs Streetstock series where Wets weren't allowed the choice was easy, just stick with my Avons

Can't recall who said to me "ride in the wet as you do in the dry just do it on wets" there's a bit more to it than that but he did make a good point

Kev - Thanks again for the advice

Managed to pick a set of pirelli diablo rains for £130 off ebay - great condition - virtually no wear - so scrubbed in

Do you use tyre warmers with wets- I heard you can but not over 50C - is that right...

Cheers

Chris

I know some use tyre warmers, I don't.
The surface area of a wet is larger than your normal dry track tyre and soon starts loosing heat as you splash down to the collecting area and then sit around there in a puddle waiting to get out on track, I usually try to work some temperature into them on the warmup lap

In BSB the Pirelli dry's we use are 180, the wets 190. Thats std issue. We always use tyre warmers on the wets BUT again, not over 50'C. The dry's are run at 84'C.

nogaro

Thanks - that's what I thought...but wasn't sure...

What bike is that on...

Having just bought a 180-55 off a BSS team - that's okay for my bike isn't it 5.5 rim 998s.....

Smaller contact patch I guess so less grip..

I'm not fast & it's got to be better than a supercorsa....:-)

They came off a CBR600 that runs 120 70 180 55 in the dry & wet

So I think a 998s should be okay with that.....

Not that much difference in power, a bit more torque
though...:-)

Better than road tyres....
