What is the best way to remove the "rivets" to seperate the upper and lower fairings? I'm not sure how to get the rubber backs off without doing any damage.
Thanks.

I dont think they are rivits. Are they not Torx headed bolts? Not sure of the size though.

there is a torx head tool in the ducati toolkit it is very small but the correct size for the fairing and screen bolts

Thanks Rockhopper.
I remember reading a recent thread on this now and all is clear.

That was my thread - they are little torx heads and they just screw out and the black rubber backings (which contain a nut) just come away - the same for the screen as well. If you still have your tool kit from the bike there is a tool in there that covers the job. Just be gentle with it because the tool is a bit soft so take it easy.
Have fun!
Hi
It's a size 7 torx and get a proper tool as the one in the tool
kit is not that good quality and knackers the head quite easily

You'll find that the rubber perishes enough (even on a year old bike!) that it sticks itself firmly to the plastic so that they're a real pain to get off in one piece.
I've got a few spares from when I replaced mine, so let me know if you need any, but they're only a few pence from Ducati if I remember correctly.

Nattyboy does them: "I can do them for £3.20 (ducati price is £4.70) per assembly (screw, and well nut type thingy..part number 69920721A"
Just e-mail him, payment by cheque.

If it was a 94 916 like mine it would have been fitted with a sort of rivet when new. They were a copper colour with spring clips on the back and always kept working loose and rattling - not that you could hear them! Replaced mine with torqx ones years ago.
An interesting fact - not many people know that one:sing:
