View Full Version : 0E fork springs for a 1998 748sps
Hi
Does anyone know what the std springs were - very stiff if I remember right!!
I've got 9 weight in (Ohlins - fitted by JHP years ago) - this may just be me but they feel a bit too soft - but then the originals always felt too hard & BTW I know the general view is to go softer even for trackdays..
Thanks
ps the bike also sneezes (like a small dog & yes I'm from Brighton but no I don't own one....:-)!! a bit when ticking over or going very slowly - been told it's the TPS & a common fault - anyone else had this??

yep, i had a sneezing 748, also coupled with poor fuel consumption (60 miles to a tank) and very rough running at around 3k re-set the TPS and all was well again!
adam
Thanks Adam
Did you replace the TPS...didn't know you could reset it....
How do you do that...
Fuel consumption is good, as is the fuelling

stolen from ducatisti so sorry for the caps lock
This applies to bikes with the 1.6m ecu.
REMOVE SIDE FAIRINGS
WIND THE IDLE STOP SCREW OUT SO THAT IT NO LONGER TOUCHES THROTTLE CAM
LIFT THE SEAT UNIT, UNBOLT THE ECU AND REMOVE THE LONG BLACK CONNECTOR ( You must wait at least 15 seconds after turning the bike off to disconnect the ecu, you will here a relay click ).
NOW CUT THE CABLE TIE HOLDING THE RUBBER BOOT ON THE LONG BLACK CONNECTOR
SLIDE THE RUBBER BOOT BACK AND UN-DO THE SMALL SCREW RETAINING THE PLASTIC COVER AND SLIDE IT OFF.
THE PINS ARE NUMBERED AND YOU WANT PINS 16 AND 30
RE-CONNECT THE ECU WITH THE COVERS OFF THE CONNECTOR AND TURN THE BIKE`S BATTERY ON
CONNECT UP YOUR MULTIMETER ( SET TO READ mV ) TO THE BACK OF PINS 16 AND 30
YOU SHOULD GET A READING SOMEWHERE AROUND 150 +/- 5mV ( FACTORY SPECS )
MOTO-ONE RECOMMEND SETTING IN TO +/- 2mV ( TAKES TIME BUT WELL WORTH IT )
TO ADJUST THE POSITION SENSOR
ENSURE THE BUTTERFLY `S ARE FULLY CLOSED
UN-DO THE TPS MOUNTING SCREWS AND MOVE THE TPS HOUSING TO OBTAIN THE CORRECT READING ( ONLY THE SMALLEST OF MOVMENTS IS REQUIRED )
TIGHTEN UP THE MOUNTING BOLTS GRADUALLY KEEPING AN EYE ON THE READING
THE READING WILL BE WAY OUT AFTER TIGHTENING THE TPS SCREWS AND ITS SIMPLY A MATTER OF PERCEVIERING WITH IT UNTIL IT`S WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE
ONCE IT`S READING IN THE CORRECT RANGE AND THE TPS IS SECURLY TIGHTENED, SNAP THE THROTTLE OPEN AND CLOSED A FEW TIME TO LET THE BUTTERYFLY SETTLE.
THIS WILL PUT THE READING OUT AGAIN AND YOU MUST FIDDLE WITH THE TPS AND SETTLE THE BUTTERFLY UNTIL YOU CAN GET IT TO REMAIN AT 150mV +/- 2mV
IT IS WORTH TAKING YOUR TIME TO SET THIS PROPPERLY AS IT WILL IMPROVE YOUR THROTTLE RESPONSE EVEN WITH A STANDARD SETUP.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm....that's involved....I will need help.....:-)
Thanks!!
Cheers
