DUCATI UK LAUNCH NEW 848 RACE SERIES

The 848 Challenge - fifteen races, eight rounds, four world championship circuits, two overseas rounds and two thousand pounds worth of Ducati Corse Riding Gear.

Ducati UK and New Era Motorcycle Club have joined forces to launch a prestigious ‘one-make series’ based on Ducati’s stunning 848 Superbike.

The race series to be known as the 848 Challenge will be run over eight rounds, six in the UK and two in Europe incorporating four world championship circuits. Each of the UK rounds will host two races. Misano will also hold two races with Assen being a single race.

The 848 Challenge will offer participants a unique opportunity racing at some of the best circuits in the UK and abroad with the intention to visit four World Championship circuits that would include Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Misano and Assen. The Misano round will be held during the weekend of the 12th and 13th June where the renowned World Ducati Week takes place - a Ducati festival that is attended by up to 50,000 fans. The Assen Circuit will welcome the 848 Challenge during the biggest amateur race meeting the ‘Ducati Club Races’. Other circuits on the calendar include Cadwell, Castle Coombe, Oulton and Snetterton.

All competitors will use the same model of bike (848/848 Dark) which with the exception of race fairings, tyres and exhausts will remain predominately standard. The 848 produces 134hp and 70.8lb-ft of torque and is regarded as one of the finest handling bikes in its class. The 848 and offers the same design and visual profile as the bike campaigned in World Superbikes by riders such as Troy Bayliss, Noriyuki Haga, Michel Fabrizio and Shane Byrne.

Competitors can purchase a new 848/848 Dark from any official Ducati dealer and included in the price will be a new Ducati Corse Riding Gear Set (Ducati Corse leather suit, Arai Chaser helmet, Ducati Corse gloves, Puma boots and Dainese-Ducati Back Protector) worth an estimated £2,000, alternatively second hand 848 are available from dealers.

Now where is that "report evil post" button...

Must be strong. Must not read again. Too late. Reading it again. Must forget about it, right now...

5 or 6 years ago I would have been interested in entering, especially as I was earning about £5k more a year and already racing in SoT, Powerbike and Open

I'm still not sure if I'll be doing much DD racing next year, but I'll be interested in seeing who enters.

:o Very Funny Paul :)

I think you will find the tyres will be very similar to those Dallas was using on the 1098 at Pembrey, apart from the wets for when it rains

Not sure where Novices will stand with overseas rounds, anybody needing to know the answer to that had better send Chris Bushell an email

It should be ok; a lot of us were certainly novices when we first went to Assen.

but many were on Novice bikes so probably a bit easier for the ACU to support and then the Novices were not supposed to wear their Novice jackets

Not sure where Novices will stand at overseas rounds?

Hmm, inside the tyre wall looking at an expensive pile of gravel covered parts for a few I would imagine.... :(

Bit like the Silverstone test day at the begining of this year, apart from the lack of Gravel which was replaced with mud & grass on Dallas's 1098 :o
