I'm looking for a cheap 749 to go racing with - anyone know of one?

An S is better, an R might be too pricey though.

TIA

Bit too pricey and purdy to race I reckon. Ideally an S model would be better too - or maybe an R!!! ;)

Nope, I'll be running this alongside Couchcommando on his 749 in the 600 Endurance series in 2010.

They're likely to be the only Ducatis running in the class and we're expecting great things....

Its a shame we can't run current Ducati models, but we'll be doing it for the marque!!! ;)

You're heading in the right direction, 996.............749............keep going and you'll get there eventually...................848.

The series would welcome some readymade "elder statesmen":D

Ray.

I think the trouble with the 848 series is that there's nowhere to realistically use a race 848 outside of this series. So no strong aftermarket or resale value etc, it does qualify for SoT etc, but you can ride a 1098 or 1198 in that, so would be underpowered.

It doesn't qualify for a 600 class, so it realistically has to run in its own series. Perhaps the series is aimed at Dealer supported entries and not individual punters? But are there 30+ dealers who can afford the resources to run a 848 in a big series? Perhaps there is.

Hence the reason for myself and Couch getting a non-current 749 Ducati model to run in a 600 series. The big-boys 1000+ series is mighty pricey and very competitive, so a 1198S is a bit too big budget!!! ;) - although Tony does have one of those lying around !!

I ran in the old KRC series years ago. Myself & Mike we both run 748's in Thunderbike series and we where thinking of running our bikes in the next years series.

Do you have the details of the new series?

Nice one, it's not a new series, as it ran this year (at least?) - details here;

Please do ask him, the 05 is more money for sure, and more power, approx 10 bhp more. But an 04 would do the job, as its about endurance and not out and out power. Saying that, I don't want to end up getting lots of mods to make up any power difference between an early bike and a later one. But money talks!!! ;) If the 04 S has all the track parts already on it, that would help!!

The early S variant is really nothing more than a Ni coated forks and minor tweaks, not really worth any more than a non-S model. But the 05 and later S's are seemingly much improved.

Prices seem to be anything from just under £3K to £4K for an early bike, then from £4K to £6K for a later one.

Thanks for your help
Tim

Yeh, saw that earlier, but thought it was sold!! but has 24K miles on it - how much for a full engine rebuild? Refurbish shock, forks, what about bearings etc.....

Could work, but would need to be under £5K I reckon. Tim
