Thinking about it although its not the circuit layout that we will be racing on I've been looking forward to giving the new GP gircuit a go, may have to think about bringing the R6 along

Booked Advance its the only group I ever book, its a wide track the fast bikes can go around me when I'm on my 620, they will have to try harder when I'm out on the R6
Kev P is taking his 996SPS along as well as his DD bike
Just booked Dallas in on his 620 at the moment but we are all in advanced

Usually find there are less mad men in the advance group than in the others, especially when you get the ones trying to make themselves look good by entering a slower group and then trying to pass everyone.
The GP track is even longer this year so once someone passes you it will be quite a while before they come around again

Me
all who raced in DD as for us its not so much about doing a trackday as its more to give the DD bikes and ourselves a shake down pre season at our nearest track, which just also happens to have large garages with electric which beats going to Mallory on a wednesday afternoon. May cost more but we save a bit on fuel and travelling time and get a whole day.
This year its a bit different as its a chance to try the new GP track :)
Last year there was Also

Your Keen Roy, its about time we had a decent day at Silverstone, we/ve had snow during the briefing one year, heavt rain another year when they had to stop people going out on Road tyres and in 2005 Fil2s DD bike was discovering the meaning of Carb icing.

When I booked the Trackday it was billed as the new GP circuit layout and the Map of the new layout was included in the PDF that contained the days itinerary and indemnity form that was sent to me on the 12th Jan.
Now if they are changing that I will want to know if they will be offering me a discount on a future date on the New GP layout
The PDF is even titled
Silverstone Itinerary New GP 2010
Otherwise I would have went with Hottrax the following Monday as per the original intention and they are still billing there day on the 29th as the Arena GP circuit

Kim the trackday was originally advetised as the NEW GP circuit, I have the PDF sent me by FE to prove it, they have obviously altered there site since then
Just fired off my second email to FE. I am a Man who likes to have a bit of paper telling him where to go and have had no details through either email or post so far. They did not respond to first email. Hoping this is just a hitch. The circuit is what it is but would have been nice to be the new one as advertised.

Likewise, I also sent a email to them basically saying it would have been nice to Know that we are not going to be using the circuit layout we booked and paid for. Gordon now informs us it will be the National track, then there is no way i would have been paying the same money for the National circuit as I would the New GP circuit layout.
I have no issue with the National circuit as its the one we will race on and well suited to the DD bikes, but I may not have bothered getting the 998R ready and certainly wouldn't have paid that money I would more than likely have gone with hottrax date 9 days later who are still saying they are on the Arena GP circuit. If I only wanted to do the National we could have done the one on April 23rd

agree Kev!! Grrrrrrrrrrr
I really dont mind which track providing I get a few giggles and give the bike a good  run out.
Mark.
Have to agree with Kev.
This time last year we booked the national circuit which was about £75 I think, making the price hike to £125 seem reasonable for the full GP track.
I must say I'm disappointed that no information has come through and I too may well have booked a different date with a more interesting track....
Dementor
16-Mar-2010, 16:08
£125 for a 1.6 mile circuit in March is taking the p**s......but at least I might be able to remember it
Also I bet the the groups will be huge as they will have been for a 3 mile circuit!!!!
I've just spoken with Gemma in bookings at FE. She has confirmed that the circuit this weekend will be the BRIDGE GP track. Not the ARENA GP, as it's not ready.
The PDF I received from FE on Jan 21st is just called "Silverstone Itinerary International & GP.pdf" I can't see within it any mention of the ARENA GP.
Anyway, it doesn't look like I will have a bike available for this weekend, so I won't be riding. Anyone interested in a place in the fast group? Available for the original price of £125, which means I'll even pay the 15% admin fee for the name change. If you're interested, let me know, send the money and I'll have the name changed over the phone with FE before Saturday.

Actually, it wouldnt be so bad if were just the National layout as that way I would have a chance to ride it before DD round having never done it before, but doing the Bridge GP on the DD bike is just going to be pointless... might see if I can get my £125 back.

But still ****ed were not doing the new one.

May contact them about cancelling if it's not what I booked and spend ghe money on the session before race day
I too spoke to Gemma yesterday. Mainly because I still dont have an itinary. Now thats two emails and a call and no itinary. Only done one FE event before and that was well organised in adverse conitions.
I am very disapointed as I wanted the new track, if not then the DD track would have been good. Now down to third choice. Still a day out with the biike .

They were still working down at Club/Abbey at 6.30 last night and a load of Porche supercup transporters outside last night so it looks as if they are pushing to get the "Bridge" circuit ready

Yes it will be great to get together, yes a great track, but as this was not as advertised I feel cheated as FE should have informed us or at least not mislead us in the first instance.
My pdf shows the international and GP circuits which I assumed as the new GP circuit as I am not familiar with Silverstone at all.:(
Would have prefered the new layout and I do feel let down. This will be my second outing with FE. The first I was very impressed and now not at all impressed.
With Brands coming up its just an excuse to get out and make sure everything is working ok. Oooh and have some fun too.
Feel free to pop by and say hello Yellow DD bike #69.
Are there garages etc available ? Never been to Silverstone before.
Mark.

Garages are good as you would expect from FI pits etc if they are open/built!!:) Restaurant just at the back of them and good easy acces in and out again subject to JCB's etc.
I'll more than likely say hello as not sure if my bikes going to be ready yet.

Skids and co usually grab a garage or two at the far end near to copse( 1st corner)/pit lane exit
The current pits/garages have not been touched as they will build a new complex between Club and Abbey next winter for F1

Well it's now official the bike will not be ready in time:( Parts arrived in good time or so they thought but ony inlet valves so after a suggestion to phone dealers it would appear they are like hens teeth and JHP has got 10 on backorder.
So I find myself without a bike a trackday that was not as advertised and no idea of when the bike will be fixed:mad:
Oh and I wrote to FE and have not heard anything so it looks like I'll be driving up guys so see you all there.;)

What are you short of ?? Pistons ?
I'll maybe call in to see who is about if I get the chance.
I'm on the Stowe circuit doing a sprint, at least if it rains I'll have a roof over my head:D

To be honest Gordon I don't really know but all that has been mentioned is the valves, again not sure which ones. Do you have a stah hidden away then?

Craig that puddle is just like the one inside the garage today
It never rains but it pours, WET WET WET and my 998R and Phil the Drills 999 obviously don't like splashing through puddles.
Well done for those that did most of the sesions on road tyres, Andy Sheppard out on his 848 in the fast group, almost everybody else in the group was on full wets, same goes for Tom Parkes out in the inters on his DD bike on Rossos while everyone around him was on wets, Nev748 out in Novices on my old 748, only his third trackday and again keeping it upright on road tyres.
Great to see everyone today, shame the weather didn't play ball.
yes, good fun but very wet.
748 was covered in filth after that so washed down and covered in WD40 now!

Well what a day, great to spend time with good mates and a BIG thanks to Trudi for the non stop supply of coffee. Good to see Steve and Shell turn up to support us. As for the track day, well at least we were the first bikes to use the new GP circuit, just a shame it was during a monsoon........that's the most expensive lap that I have ever done, fine for those on Wets, but on Super Corsa BSB's it was a not for me. From the number of Red flags my decision was confirmed, with 2 of the offs half way down the start/finish straight. Definitely want to do it again, but on a warm, dry day :)

Can't believe the weather today but hey ho! Big thanks to Pete B & Nick for trusting me on their race bike, I was a bit achey as I don't think my legs are supposed to do that. Need to go again as I could not see too much and it would be great to do the circuit in better conditions.Great effort by everyone in the garage with trying to sort out problems.:)

It was great to have my first time back out on track with some good mates yesterday, shame about the weather too epsecially with it being so nice today????
Good to catch up again and see some new faces too.
Thanks to Trudy for the truely professional canteen and catering facilities.
Had a laugh on track with the 848 running 2CT's amongst the fast guys using full wets, even managed to tag onto a guy on a fireplace the 848 was a good match for it. Rain expert Kev Parmer shown me a clean pair of heals on his 996 though and Tom Parkes looked freezing struggling round with the DD bike on the newer tyres which shows they work in the wet.
Andy
ps, spent most of today cleaning the bike :(

Think its going to be a good circuit when its done and finished. Once some of the standing water ( or mud) had cleared it was not too bad. Just pity there was so much water.
Hope its allsorted for when we go back there.

Maybe racing at Mallory yesterday would have been a better option, I see the Sound of Thunder times were in 5 hundreths (0.05) of a second of when we were there last June so weather and track must have been half decent
Also noticed the fastest Maxxis time was good for about 8th place in a Class B Desmo Due Race under last years rules, dispite the extra power, cc & tyre warmers.
Those old H-rated Diablos can't be that bad,

Well far from being a step forward it looks as if this much vaunted series is a bit of a step backwards.
I would think that a well handled Desmo Due bike will eat them alive at Silverstone, especially with the new Rosso tyres. I think we can probaly manage more than 3 DD boys on Pirelli's to show them the way home - any takers?

I hear from PeteB that they found the fault with Phil the Drills 999 which was traced to a chaffed wire where the loom comes into the battery box area, bet Phils happier that it happened at Silverstone and not the Nurburgring.
My 998R is back to normal now that it is dried out so pin pointing the actual fault isn't going to be easy so will go for the prevention is better than the cure aproach.
Sunday was such a contrast to Saturday waking up to brite sunshine so I thought how can I bitch about the Silverstone weather without making the most of Sundays dry conditions.
Normally that would mean taking the bike for a bl00dy good spin, but I refrained and instead stripped the DD bike, removed the old 2002 5-speed engine (Yes I know it only had one speed in my hands and that was Slow speed :) ) and replace it with the later engine I bought off Dave Ainscough, by tea time I had it all back together including the addition of a Alloy arm and a new chain and if it wasn't for a lack of Silkolene Comp4 I would have had it running.
Just picked up 4 litres of Comp4 from MPS Express on the way home, they gave me my 10% DSC discount reducing the price to £26.99 so after some dinner I'll be putting it in the bike and get her running.
Then I can carry on with the rest of the list of things to do, no Panic !! still have 10 days to Race Day :D

Yep, Peteb was round Phil's at the crack of dawn on Sunday with his soldering iron  what this club is all about :) Phil then had to get a new starter soleniod on Monday as the old one was a bit tired and grown a furry beard
Haven't heard if that sorted it though!?
As you say totally different weather Sunday and the 272 beckoned so it would have been rude not to, especially having spent 2 hours cleaning half of Silverstone off the bike
Unfortunately Phil won't be going to Germany with us this year Kev, something about his Brother's wedding that weekend........poor excuse

Nice one Phil, hope you gave it a good clean around that battery box area while it was apart.
Just come in from the garage, the Desmo Due bike is now a runner with its new engine, looks like I will be running it without a power commander at Brands, so have decided to run a standard airbox lid so as not to weaken it off to much.
Thought I would see what the Diagnostic unit could see
