as a new owner I'm in the market for a decent helmet. I've sort of come to the conclusion that most brands are going to be safe enough so it may come down to other factors.
I like the look of the Roof helmets but have yet to try one as I can't seem tofind a stockist near me. I also like the look of the Ducati ones too actually. I tried a Ducati Supersport one on when I bought the bike but they only had one colour. I thought it looked good and was very comfortable (I tried Shoie and agv ones at the same time). But I can't seem to find one. I like the look of the new Ducati Blade helmet too .... and hope to try one.
Any thoughts regarding these choices??

Hey! Another one just 5 mins along the A27 from me, wahey! :D
Pop along to CMW in Chi and have a chat with young Mel, she's got a few Ducati lids on special offer at the moment, and she's worldly wise in getting the right fit, most important aspect of a new lid!
If you're shy I'll come along and introduce you ;) :P

I reckon you should try many different ones on first to see which manufacturer's helmet fits you best - they are all different. Some are designed for US heads, some for Euro heads and some for UK heads.
Once you've found the "type" of head you've got, then you should chose a lid from their range that you like.

hi guys, it's Melnie here, I've just worked out how to use this thing... yeah come along to me and i'll measure you up for one... then you can try on a few and see if you like any...
the new ducati blade helmet is made by vemar, and with the roof ones, make sure you try one on right size, as those ones are a 'love em or hate em' helmet... funny fit, but lovely to those who seem to fit it..
come say hi :) - Hi Paul, thank you xx

Hi Mel
Sorry, this is going to sound 'Big Brother' but we ask business members like CMW to use the Business Directorysection of the board rather than the messageboard to advertise. We can also offer you attractive rates to advertise in Pronto - email SallyAnn.Jardine@DucatiSportingClub.com for more information. Please be sure to mention the discounts you offer DSC members.

Hipshaker,
If you are considering a Roof .....please please please make sure it is not the chin lift one.....The full faces are fine but i saw a guy at Mallory go down the road face down with a chin lift boxer on and the chin piece snapped off liked it is designed to do...............
He did not have much of his own chin left!!!!
As the rest of the guys/gals have pointed out make sure it fits, most important.........you do not want it giving you head aches etc if it is too tight as it will distract you from driving...also too lose and it will pop off if you have a prang!!!
You can't put a price on your head so buy the most expensive lid you can....go for a gold stamp which fits snuggly is my best advice....
Regards

Snapped off like it was designed to do :puzzled::puzzled::puzzled::o:o:o
What sort of chin piece is it? Just there for show? Blimey, you'd be better off with an open face lid than one which pretended to offer some jawbone protection

I think I understand what you're trying to say Henners, but that was just a friendly response, dont think Mel's post could be classified as an advert at all! Not like my 'plugs' for a main dealer that has bent over backwards to help me in my recuperation onto 2-wheels.
Especially when other corporate members are posting direct links to their site and listing items for sale from their premises!
Not wanting to get anybody on high horses but let's be fair please. :biaggi:

Thanks ......... all advice gratefully received.
Mel ... I've been in already. I bought the bike from CMW a couple of weeks ago and went upstairs a couple of times. Tried a few helmets on. You had a ducati one that fitted nicely ... but in red when i wanted silver or dark. Your patience was much appreciated and there was no hard sell.
And ... I agree with psychlist, it didn't come across as an advert to me either. Especially in light of the lack of hard sell i mentioned above.

Jools,
The chin piece is held in place by a "Pop Stud" either side that's all!!!! They swivel around a metal point which you can loosen with a flat head screwdriver to remove for cleaning etc.......
The actual chin piece is a light weight material certainly not up to a full face frontal impact.......
I think in fairness Roof market them as an open face helmet and don't claim to offer any protection from the chin piece????

There is only one lid ARAI RX7 CORSAIR (saved me!):D How much is your head worth? I have a ROOF as a stand in and it's comfy, quiet and a looker but vents not great, visibility not great and don't like the 'seat belt' style fastener.BUT it's half the price:o

Well, I took a trip to London today and picked up a Roof Diversion RO10 (Lemans - silver/grey) helmet and some Dainese boots and gloves from Sondel. It's not a cheap game is it?
Boots fit nice and comfy except I can't seem to get them done up that well with the trousers tucked in so will probably have to leave them on top.
And how difficult is it getting stuff from Ducati? I went to the London Central branch to try the Blade helmet but they didn't have any in my size! Similar whe4n I was looking for a bike. Phoned London Central about 2 s/h bikes to be told they were at Croydon. Drove up and neither bike was there!

Ducati lids are rebadged SUOMY helmets.
The dainese boots come in a under and over trousers/leathers fit......
hipshaker

aah ...... didn't realise that about the dainese boots. These ones are called "rap" and seem pretty tight. The trousers (dainese also) go in but the shin protection seems to be getting in the way of the boots doing up a bit. I was wondering whether I need to change the trousers actually as the knee protectors don't actually sit on the knee when i'm standing, they are a little below ..... although when "hunched over" on the bike they probably will slide up a little.
brownrigby

The knee part should be a little low when you stand and the slack is taken up when you crouch.Unless the slack is taken pretty much all up to your knee when you are on the bike they might be a bit big/long, must be polite........but if you are a bit short in the leg department it's tough to get around sometimes.I'm 6.1 and the armour in my dainese trousers (2 type's) touch my boots when standing, but they are a perfect fit:D.
If you need/want a perfect fit HIDEOUT make made-to-measure gear of superb quality and made my race suit (kevlar lined etc) just a thought:puzzled:

well ..... i sent them both back. thought it best to start again and buy them both together. i still like the dainese boots but i tried some daytona ones on too this week ..... goretex, 29cm high but just over £200 unfortunately. a very nice fit though. everything i try on seems a little tight around the calf to fit textile trousers in so maybe i just have to resign myself to wearing the trousers outside.

Try SIDI or OXTAR boots the sidi ones being VERY comfy with good protection (some would say common) and saved my feet etc! Oxtar are not so comfy but very good protection.

actually, the latest Ducati helmets, are not Suomy, they are Vemar... ie. the blade helmet is a vemar helmet, so becareful, as they're a different fit again.
Also, they're are different 'head shapes' within everyone's range, so do NOT find one make you like and assume it will fit... keep trying all of them on, to find out if you're an oval head or a round head for instance.. very important find right fit... and don't assume once you've tried one helmet on in 'someone's range' i.e. AGV, that you don't like them, as it might not be right model for you.. so try different model on within same range for instance...
Oh, and what's this about a hug? who wanted one??? :)

I've let a Roof Daytona look after my bonce for a year now.
Great fitting lid, fairly quiet, I actually like the seatbelt type fastener cos you can operate it with gloves on. I find the visibility good. Only criticism is visor changing - a complete faf!! just remember to keep a 2 pence in your pocket.
I've got a silver / black one too (check out the avtar) is this the same one as you?

I hesitate to say this, but watch out for KBC helmets, chrome or otherwise. Visibility not good. Have decided, in spite of excellent appearance, will not be wearing for riding in traffic. Fine for track when don't need to look behind. Alpinestars boots and Dainese leathers top quality, though. :ninja:

This is the one I've got:

A little different from yours which I think is this:

Nice helmet. Fits pretty well although I get the impression its not the best for visibilty .... although not the worst too.
