View Full Version : Get ready for a new Record every Round in 2011
No, not me being overly optimistic! With the extended race length there will be a new Race time record for both classes every weekend (except probably Castle Combe):
Brands Hatch 16 laps - longest previously was 12 laps
Mallory Park 15 laps - longest previously was 10 laps
Spa - If we go it is a first and so all records will be new.
Anglesey 12 laps - longest previously was 8 laps
Snetterton 300 10 laps - we did do 10 laps on the old 2mile circuit, but 2011 will be on the new 3 mile layout.
Pembrey 15 laps - longest previously was 10 laps
Cadwell 10 laps - Longest previously was 8 laps
Castle Combe 8 laps - This is a guess and will probably be the only one that stays the same as it is New Era's own race.
Oulton 8 laps - longest previously was 7 laps
So anyone winning a race next year stands a very good chance of also going into the record books. So all start looking forward to a Record setting 2011.

Only 48 until the Brands test day.
????? test day is 11th March day before the racing.
????? test day is 11th March day before the racing.
There is also a test day on 20th Feb. Currently at a reduced price on the Hottrax website.
I figure it will be a good idea to at least run the bike when it is back together.... So seems like a perfect opportunity.
Surely the longer the race the more weight(fuel) is being carried and by the end of the race most will be a little worn out to go flat out??
Mark
Just looking to book that day right now!!

I was referring to the overall race time... there are records listed for the overall race time, so any time the total number of laps is changed a new record will be set. So there will be a new total race time record set at just about every round in 2011.
In terms of when anyones fastest lap will come, it might be interesting to see if we do slow down at all in the last laps. Actually, whilst looking up the times from Brands last year (to see what I did and what everyone else was doing... targets for the practice day) I noticed that Mr Lawson was less than 1/10th of a second from the overall lap record at Brands last year. Matt... you coming on the 20th so I can learn your lines?!!.... (I need to find 3 seconds).

On the original 2011 race date calendar that I believe you refer to here, there were several Fridays quoted as practice days. These do not appear on the e-mail we were subsequently sent confirming the race dates, so are these Fridays to be booked separately from the weekend racing? I thought they were included as part of the weekends regs?
I've just booked a Focused Track Day at Brands on the 11th Feb - anyone else going to be there? I can't do the ACU test days yet as I won't have my licence until just before Brands (I hope!).
I'm at Snetterton on Sunday 27th Feb.. Need to test the suspension after all the changes and run in the engine etc.
The circuit has been changed significantly and is only 30 mins away from me, so it will also be a chance to suss it out before our round there :-)
I know Brands quite well and that hasn't changed, so will give that a miss.

doing Brands (not booked yet tho) on 20th (I think) with Hottrax which is an ACU day.
re practice days - yes book direct with Hottrax - some are on the website now.
Looking forward to Brands on 20th. Looks like I have about 5 to 7 seconds  a lap to find to turn in a good result this year.
Should be a good day out just hope its a little warmer than the same time last year.

So the practice days are separate to the race days and need to be paid for aswell, on top as the race days being dearer than last year??!! WTF
If thats the case then this year's grid could well be Badgerless.

I'm not a fan of the increase in costs this year, especially as we still don't know what they are, but last year there were no free practice days so this isn't another increase.
It's really just the availability of an organised track day for race practice if you choose to do it.

Apologies, had a re-read and it's referring to the Friday ones not the practice on actual race days!

have a look at Hottrax racing webstie, most classes listed as £235 race entry, then you'll have the Friday on top of that if you want it (brands is £99).
If you did Sat and Sun last year, likley it'll cost a bit less, but then you'll only get 3 races not 4 ;)
Looks like it could be a budget breaking year as well :(
Mark.
Damn that VAT rise

It does seem from the Hottrax Motorsport website that a Round (2 days) is £235 as that is listed for all the other classes they are running. I won't go into the argument about Saturdays last year (I am sure most people - certainly the top 15 or so did them all). Cadwell Park last year cost me (with having to pay for Allcomers for extra Sat and Sunday morning practice) £302 for 2 days racing. If I had just done DD I think I am right in saying I would have saved £50, so £252. If Cadwell Park this year is £235, then unless I missed something, it is actually £20 cheaper (for the weekend) without even considering the fact we will have more tracktime (so is cheaper/lap).
Last year at Cadwell (if you check), by doing DD you got the following:
6 lap timed Practice Sat
2 x 8 lap races Sat
5 lap lap warmup Sun
2 x 8 lap races
Total 43 laps for £5.80/lap
Predicted 2011 you will get:
2 practices and warmup (assume at least 5 lapseven though this is an underestimate)
3 x 10 lap races
Total 45 laps for £5.20/lap (more laps for less money, and the practices are expected to be longer than I have assumed).
Fridays are a practice... like a trackday. Do it or not... it is up to the individual. At least we have the option of being there the day before, which is better than being there a week before when the conditions will be different and you have twice as much travelling.
Last year all in was £1166

Thats a 60% increase
Although we do have 14% more rounds and that doesn't include a possible discount.
So, adding 14% to £1166 gives £1332
If they offer a 10% discount for all rounds, we would pay £1,692, so only 27% more ;)

ALSO, you quote £1880, which would be 8 x 2 day races. According to the latest Provisional Calendar, we have 4 x 2 day and 4 x 1 day races. Let us assume (for a change - hurry up Kev) that a 2 day round is £235 and a 1 day round is £150, then the total would be £1,540, which with a 10% discount would be £1,386, so the equivalent of £46 more over the season........
..... but of course this is all irrelevant until we get some actual figures.

Bring on the real figures...
It's not what I'm drinking... It is that I'm not racing and everything at work is under control. Plus, "outsiders" nip in here to see what is going on that could well be put off by guesses that it will be so much more this year.... News that could well put them off of joining us. I figure it would be a shame if that happened, so like to try to level the argument with a little common sense. Of course, my guestimates could also be out, but my point is there is no point nedlessly scaring people off or moaning about things we are not even sure of ourselves. So, come on Race Comittee... We are chomping.
Bring on the real figures...
No.... Bring on the racing!

You can't have it both ways.... you are quoting £235 as being expensive.... If it is £235, then that is cheaper than the £250 we were paying last year for 2 days... and we get more time this year. I know we don't know it is £235, but people are quoting it and using to display how much more next year will be. The simple fact is that £235 in the example of our 2 day races would actually be cheaper...... so which is it? is £235 cheaper or more expensive for a 2 day race?

never said i could. Personally, looks reasonable value to me if the plan was to do every race, ie both days. For me this year it is. What I was saying is there wont be a choice; guess what, no choice so more expnesive.
they havent quoted a price for 1 day yet, or said its onot the 2 day race meet price; just published one price.
but agree; final figures arent published yet...oh and bring on the racing :D
No worries. It wasn't anything personal. As I say I'm trying to just balance out the argument until we know. Is every off season this frustrating?

DD entry Costs for Hottrax events
One day events - Brands, Mallory, Oulton - £200 entry for whch we are allocated 90 minutes of track time. made up of untimed practice, Timed Practice and two races.
Two day events with 2 races - Pembrey - Snetterton - £220 for which we are allocated 105 minutes of track time, made up of untimed & timed practice along with one race on Saturday, then a warmup / untimed practice session and a race on Sunday
Two day events with 3 races - Angelsey and Cadwell - £235 for which we are allocated 135 minutes of track time made up of untimed & timed practice along with two races on Saturday, then a warmup / untimed practice session and a race on Sunday
We had a very good deal with New Era as they held their prices down for several years and look what it has cost them.
Track hire costs more every year and most clubs now hire tracks for both days of the weekend and need to sell the grid spots on both days to recoup their outlay
For the last few years £125 entry bought 60 mins of DD allocated track time which also meant certain more costly tracks like Oulton were dropped.
£150 entry got you 90 mins of track time across DD and Allcomers.
£250 would get you 120 mins of DD track time across 2 days
£300 could get you 180 mins of DD and Allcomers track time across 2 days
This years costs have already taken into account the rise in VAT and the increase in Track hire fees
You realise the cost of hiring some circuits when you look at the costs of some of the test days. The Friday before the race day at Oulton is £165 to enter the test/trackday, Snetterton is £125.
Hopefully the extra tracktime this year will help some save on the cost of test days as well as reducing the need to enter another class.

I'm tired.
Does that make £1510
Only castle combe to add in.
My £1166 last year did include a New Era busting 20% discount!!
To summerise:
Thats less than a £100 increase even if you don't look at the extra track time.
Thanks Kev.
Your efforts are appreciated

Two emails bounced back to me one from Julian Norman and one from Brian Alexander. Possibly you have both changed your email addres in the last couple of weeks.
Could any changes of email addresses be sent to desmodue@ducatisportingclub.com so that I can keep my contact details up to date

Do you know if there will be any discount for a block booking/payment, as per New Era last year and if that would extend to the Friday Test Day fee as well?
Many Thanks for that,
As there was mention of Mallory but not Spa is there any decision yet on which it is.

He did,nt qualify for the award at Pembrey Ron as he never really left the track. He never made it past the WALL. Ouch.
However he is still in the running at Oulton in 2009 where he held the absulte lap record by going dirt tracking and ending up back on the circuirt about half way round.

If cutting across the infield counts then I'd like to nominate myself for 2010 Castle Combe where I ballsed the first chicane up and went dirt riding all the way to the back straight. See Kenoir for first hand witness details.
Also after a, ahem, coming together with Jimbo I went straight on at the Gooseneck into the tyres which is a fair way off track.
