If I have no spare parts, I cannot crash.

If I don't crash, I won't need any.

If I know that I have no spare parts I'll be a bit more careful this year.

Any comments on the above 3 statements.

Matt :)

If I have no spare parts, I cannot crash:- No, you can crash... you just can't repair it!

If I don't crash, I won't need any:- True... but you won't be able to catch Neil!

If I know that I have no spare parts I'll be a bit more careful this year:- Once those lights go out are you really going to be thinking about spares.

Anyway, judging by how well you "repaired" your fairing, you don't need spares!

(I know this wasn't the point of the original post, but it throws up an interesting discussion...)

Someone, somewhere in the paddock will have the bits you need, and I'm sure they'll be willing to lend them to you...

...just make sure you give them back or replace them once you're done!

It probably makes sense to have simple things like bars and maybe cheap replacement brake levers, footpegs and enough tape, cable ties and fasteners to replace damaged fairing!

I always went on the premise that if I did something big enough to damage the bike in a major way (lost a wheel / bent a fork / etc) then I'd probably not be in a fit state to ride the next race anyway ;)

you know people will have most bits that are required, there was even a fibre glass kit available at Brands if you wanted to repair it Friday.

Any way its Mallory next so you should be .... Maybe a van full of bits is a good idea. :D

I am sure that after last year you will have an adjusted attitude to rushing to the front.

You can't carry enough spare parts! I've rebuilt some pretty badly damaged bikes in the paddock over the years both mine & others & saved a weekend for quite a few people.

It's surprising what you can repair, make do or do without when the pressure is on.

Most front runners are going to crash at some stage so be prepared;)

PPPPPP:)

Spares? There are always a load in my van nowadays, and I am happy to let people use. I even went so far as to buy another 600ss on Monday evening, just in case.........The dejection of my results on Saturday has given me renewed will to improve laptimes and position at every round this year.

I'll hang around for you at Mallory then ;)

I carry a fair amount too, 2 large boxes incl a fibregalassing kit, and have just sourced a whole top end just in case...

or you could have the Ruban Xaus approach.....
Quote.

"Today I Win or Crash"

or at least get spare levers/bars/footpegs/rearsets/gearchanger and fit some mushrooms dude. Saved the wheezer twice, only 1 rearset/1 footpeg and the gear changer at Cadwell and a clutch lever at Oulton.

Thanks guys, :) , I have a few minor bits, most of the bits from my SS last year don't fit the Monster. but,,,,, as I've said, I have a different approach this year.

Must not crash.
Must not crash.
Must not crash.
Must not crash.
Must not crash.

I always went with the idea that you only ever have enough spares when you have two identical bikes sat next to each other
Did in F600, Powerbike, Open, SoT, the 2003 TT and the 2004 TT

Not taking racing as seriously these days so just carry a few useful spares.
