Stated my old 600SS today - first time since I put it away for the winter. I have not had time to warm it up occasionaly over the winter like I used to do and to my amazement it started first press of the button and settled into a reasonable tick-over.

Only worry is that it is throwing out clouds of grey smoke. This died down a bit as the bike warmed up but it is still very smoky. There also seems to be some smoke coming out of the air filter box.

I was thinking of taking it for a long steady run to see if it clears but I'm not too sure that is a good idea.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Valve stem seals, possibly

Yes, that was my first thought. Is it a difficult fix?

Not to difficult if you have the right tools and are quite handy with them
