looking to buy a pair of tyres for my 748 but most places are only able to offer a front in the 120/70-ZR17 size

my bike has always had the 120/60-ZR17 front fitted - am i going to notice a great change in the handling by getting the 70 series tyre ( i know that 916'S were fitted with this as standard, and 748's for some reason used the 60 profile)

your comments are appreciated

Having a new set fitted to my 748 this sat by Mike Davis at robsom racing.
Bike came with 120/70 but I’m trying the standard 120/60.
The /70 is more stable at the expense of turn in (I think).
As Jasper says though this is covered by peps that know.
Hope you find what you need.

You will notice a difference between the 2 profiles, which suits you best who knows.
Just to add another dimension though, there is a 65 profile and i use the 207 RR version. Works for me.

I thought my bike was standard (748S), and I have 120/70 profile. Am I wrong then? Is a 60 profile the standard size??? :puzzled:

I switched from a 60 profile BT010 to a 70 section Diablo. For me, the front felt a little more planted in the corners. The steering, or speed of it anyhow, felt no different. The one thing I do have now is chicken strips on the front, whereas on the 60 I was off the edge.
The other thing to take into account is that a "quick" profile, like 207R for instance, even in a 70 section would still feel quicker than a more sedate 60, due to the actual shape of the tyre itself.
It's all down to personal preference at the end of the day but I'll be sticking with the 70 section Diablo for now. :)

I've had a 748, still got a Senna and have the Bos Rep (being repired at the moment after major spill) and have always run them all on 120/65's. Seems a very good compromise to me, and the 207RR's still seem to be on the money too although technology MUST have moved on a bit since they came out.......at the end of the day though I reckon you have to be Loris or Troy to REALLY notice a massive difference.

I agree with Nelly though, the taller tyres do seem to leave chicken strips...best reason to have 60/65's?
