Plot thickens - apparently a negative feedback was left because a buyer had problems using the 'freeware' software.

Yes, unfortunately there are lots of people reselling the FREE DucatiDiag software - some are getting over £100 for it!!

And the site forum includes help on the software and which cables to buy which will cost you under £10 if you shop around on ebay:

£40 seems standard price on Italian Ebay yet over here they ask you for £100 yet as Antony says you can get the Software for Free and buy a couple of cheapish connectors, think they come in at under £15 for the two you need

Quite a bit less than I was planning to bid for the DDS system that has been ended early on Ebay :(
