View Full Version : Parking Ticket

Got a bloomin parking ticket but seems so unfair and not sure what to do.
Basically, my road is a residents only parking road and at the end of each parking zone are double yellows that go around the corner. When I got home Friday evening a large van (that I noted didn't have a residents permit) was parked outside my house. So I parked up on the double yellows at my end of the road as I don't like parking in front of somebody elses house as it just shifts the problem on to them. I went out in the evening and had a few beers at my mates and when I got home I could have moved my car back outside my house but obviously didn't as I'd had a few beers. I get up Saturday morning and my car had been ticketed at 9.00am.
Right, that's all the waffle about the situation, but I'm not sure wether to pay it or contest it and see if I can get let off. The double yellows aren't really there for any reason. You're not blocking any access or on a major road that disrupts traffic so I think the yellow's are pretty pointless. The guy could have looked in my window and seen that I have a residents permit and maybe cut me a bit of slack (although that wouldn't do his figures any good for the end of the month - me cynical? never).
I can either pay the £30 or ask for a court hearing. But do they actually make you go to a local court (something that makes you not bother contesting it and just pay the fine instead - me cynical? never...again)? Or is it dealt with through the post?
Or could I send a cheque along with a letter explaining the situation and hope the guy in charge see my side of things and sorts it out from there?
Mmmm, don't know what to do.

They've got you bang to rights guv'nor!!!
You've broken the law and deserve to be locked up - scallywag!!!
I suggest a good tarring and perhaps finish off with a little hanging, drawing and for good measure a little quartering!!!
You'll be lucky to avoid the death penalty!!!
I don't think you've got a case mate, you were on double-yellows, whether they should or shouldn;t be there is irrelavant - you've broken the law - and then went off to celebrate!!!
Bounder!!!:lol::lol::lol:
Tim:frog:
I run a courier company in Manchester so we tend to get quite a few tickets especially since the set up was privatised,
however if we have GOOD REASONS we do appeal and in around 80% of the cases the tickets get scrubbed.
I think it's definately worth a letter explaining the circumstances and even better if a neighbour could corroborate or you have the vans reg.
Good luck

Anyway, back to the ticket. I know I was on double yellows and have no real excuse. It just pi**es me off when you go through life doing what you can to be nice to people (apart from Tim) and then you end up with a £30 ticket for something that seems so trivial.

I think it's worth a polite letter, mentioning how compliant you usually are, what a considerate person not to take a neighbours space and that you do have resident's permit. Get the letter off well within the period they say for the reduced fine. I always mention that I am quite prepared to state my case in court. They don't seem to want the expense or embarrassment. I get particularly ****ed off when I'm just inside a motorcycle parking space but maybe half a wheel or the footpeg is hanging out (cos the bloody scooters have taken all the motorbike spaces!). I tend to carry a camera in London now so I can get photographic evidence of how NOT worthy of a ticket my parking is. Good luck. Don't forget to remind Rattler about the Spanish boys, too.

PS Don't send the cheque with the letter. Otherwise, they'll just cash it and you'll hear nothering further.

The thing is though that I'm not sure I can be bothered with a court appearance which is obviously what they want. Was wondering if you had to go or could plead/put your case by post.

If you're not up for it, just pay the fine, man! It's only 30 quid. My advice would have cost you that (if I ever get a training contract, pass 106 more exams and finally achieve 'solicitor' status) :frog:
Just send a nice letter, if it works for us disreputable couriers it stands more chance of working for normal upstanding members of the community. If it doesn't work it's only cost the price of a first class stamp, and they should still charge you the cheaper fee, rather than the late payment surcharge.
The 20% we failed on we only pay the lower amount because we've appealed immediately and make it clear that if appeal is not accepted we will pay straight away
I always advise the camera option!! Did the non resident van get a ticket?
Redruth, your obviously very clever..... how come you dont know whats wrong with your clutch?
Sorry, couldnt resist that, suitably admonished your worships!

Andyb - I'm waiting for a response from Henners on another thread about my clutch. I have a mechanic booked tomorrow. Now I'm thinking, I spent nigh on 700 quid on my bike in May, it's now end July, I've only another done 1800 miles on it and something's gone wrong. It's all very well being in love (pay attention Desmondo, this is relevant!) but they cost you a f*****g fortune and don't give you what you really need, which is a reliable ride. B******s, I might just buy a Jap road and track bike be done with it. May be worrying over nothing - could be something simple which will only cost me a tenner to fix. :puzzled:
If you can't get anywhere by contesting it, you can always go to your local bank and get 3000 pennies, put in a jar and go to the counsil and pay your £30! They really like that.

You know, sometimes in life its just easier and cheaper to pay up and move on... Apply this little rule:
Just for a minute imagine that you get paid for your leisure time. Hey, lets get paid at the same rate as we do at work!!
Now, work out how long its gonna take you to i) worry about it, 2) write a letter, and post it, 3) get a reply and get angry about it, 4) decide what to do next, 5) put on a suit, get in car and drive to court.... you get my drift.
Now, lets say thats all about 5 hours. Whats that at your hourly pay. Bet its more than £30... pay the buggers and damn them!!!! :P:P:P
