I’m having a modified seat unit painted this week-end.
Can anyone out there provide me with the correct paint code for the red used on the bodywork of a 2002 998Bip.
Any assistance most welcome.

It should be in the back of the manual - the PPG code is the one you want.
You can get the manuals online, but the Ducati website is unavailable until the end of the month!
Luckily I have a copy of the spare parts manual here, and it says:
"Rosso Anniversary DUCATI" 473.101
Giallo (yellow) DUCATI 473.201
Hope this helps!
Just keep in mind that paint codes are only a starting point and no guarantee for an exact match, if that's what your after.

Hi,painted mine a few months back and had great fun trying to find a code, even then the colour was different:flame:.
As a painter it should have been easy, fat chance:(
In the end got all the red paint codes sent down(about 10 in total)mix up a small amount of each.Sprayed a small card in each till i found one that was as close as poss.:D
But having looked at other ducati's,most have different colour panels from new :oThink it depended on what paint they had in the gun panel to panel:o
Sorry i cant be more helpfull

Thanks for the repsonses Guys,
If anyone out there has a definitive answer, it looks like there are a few of us who would be grateful.
However, given the responses above, it looks like we just have to do the best we can.

Spinoli,
Ducati use PPG paints. Contact them in the UK on 01753 611500. They will give you the exact paint recipe and where you can source their paint locally.
My advice would be use genuine PPG for best colour match. Translating to another manufacturer's paint is unreliable - even very small differences in the constituant colours in the recipe can make a huge difference to the final colour.

If you're spraying from cans, Plastikote Bright Red #1120 is a very good match at a fiver a can. Make sure you prep and undercoat properly (use the matching Plastikote grey undercoat) then seal with clear laquer (again use matching Plastikote) and they look really good.
Take your time between stages and give the paint at least 24 hours (preferably 48 hours) to dry before applying the next stage.
