Bank Details Scam PLEASE READ

Guys/Gals,

Following on from my Ebay warning last week i have today received an attempt to get my Internet banking details by a similar method.

Please pass on this warning to friends/family etc.

As with the ebay email the Halifax one has all the logo's even a picture of "Howard" the Halifax advert guy so is quite well done. The English in the email in this one is a bit better so our fraudsters must be taking English lessons:mad:

Technical services are carrying out a planned software upgrade for the maximum convenience of the users of the online banking service of the Halifax bank.

We earnestly ask you to follow the link below and confirm your bank data.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and we thank you for your continued custom and appreciate that you have a choice when choosing your bank.

The link was www.Halifax-online.co.uk but re- routed elsewhere.

Needless to say i have sent a copy of the email to Halifax security department.

This is quite common, using ALL the well known banks as targets.

A couple of tips:

Never *ever* re-enter your details online for anything - ebay, email accounts, bank details, credit cards, etc.

Never *ever* use links in emails - always type the website address into a browser and navigate from there.

Treat every email as fake!

The word "earnestly" is a bit of a give away. If ever Johhny Foreigner realises we stopped using that word years ago, we'll be in trouble!

My bank is an internet bank too. However, I think they have dealt quite effectively with this type of scam by sending letters around saying that they will NEVER request this sort of information, so you should never reply to these requests.

The same message appears on their home page.

Of course the more vulnerable members of society like the old and the confused might still be suckered by this, but then the old and confused wouldn't be banking on the internet would they?

spells fake to me ... if you follow Antonye's golden rules though you should be fine.
