I work in textile manufacturing, we make wollen suit cloth and we to are stuggling to find work at the mo, It is usualy quiet at this time off the year but this is the quietest January I've known :sniff:

Hope that you get to stay (if you want). Im sure you are aware I was made redundant very recently, but a new job appeared before Id even left my old employer.
When this happens, people either feel guilty (those likely to stay) or shafted (those likely to leave.)
What ever happens, if you do leave, make sure you leave your current employment as if you were going back for an interview tomorrow.
Best advice I can give, and good luck whatever happens

Good luck Kev, I must say it doesn't appear to have been handled very competently. I know that these things are never easy and managers often squirm around making these decisions, but it would be nice if they had the guts to tell you exactly where you stood instead of letting you work it out yourself by counting names against jobs.

As other people have said, when one door closes another opens. I hope they're right.

Hey Kev I can sympathise with you very much mate as i'm going through a similar thing at the moment what with being made redundant at the end of November. For me I'm a little undecided at what to do. Obviously I'm looking in my current industry, but am also considering starting a franchise. Hope everything works out for you in a positive way and it doesn't impact too much on the racing, ehich after all is the prioirty!!!!:cool:

This happened to both my hubby and father in law as they worked for the same company.
For us it was positive...Forced me to use my degree and get a very good job with 3 times the potential for reward and prospects, and hubby with a good job that pays very well that he loves and is happy in.
That 6 months on benefit was appalling and I WILL NEVER go back to that again...
Father in law wasn't so lucky...Got a full time job with less pay. He has worked for them for 6 years now they have "laid him off" due to falling profit. The whole firm is "restructuring". They have a job for him that means working nights and a new contract...
My advice: SIGN NOTHING!... Get a rendundancy package or Make him redundant on no renumeration, so he is able to claim a decent benefit.
BE CAREFUL...They may change your contract and ask you to sign a new one.
However many years you have worked for them, how ever family orientated the firm...do not trust them one bit! Get advice!:(
