Haven't done Silverstone yet, but look forward to it one day.

I did Silverstone GP on the 996 earlier this year. Now admittedly mine is still running with the standard gearing and as such doesn't accelerate as quickly as it could, but from the revs I was pulling going down the Hanger Straight, and from the calcs I did when I got back, i don't reckon I was doing much more than 140 - unless my maths is way out? But if that is the case then there's probably a lot of people who've been quicker than that on the road in the past. Think the difference is it's so much more commited on track.

Track is safer (unless there's a lot of track noobs around) and the crash consequences are usually a lot less serious.

track. but not if you're riding new dom at cadwell woodland.

I can't believe people can seriously suggest the track is as safe/safer than the road.

The obvious response is "only if you ride on the road like you do on the track".

To a large degree, road riding is as dangerous as you want to make it. On the track, by contrast, you're (presumably) riding at 90-100% of your abilities (110% sometimes? :).

That would be true if you only had to count with yourself and maybe up to other 20 bikes on the road. But that's not what happend has on the road you have to consider countless other vehicles and obstacles that appear in your way.
