I have the PDF's of the US and UK owners manuals but the loom info is not included, sorry. Lots of others, does it have to be a 998? |
It appears so Rob, I have a lot of the PDF's but none have the 998 wiring. where the bike uses the 5.9M ECU they look as if they have altered some other parts of the wiring in the large screw together plug just above the battery. Not only is the front loom up to the headlight longer it is also wired different to the eariler models. As a 998 front harness is as rare as Hens teeth on the second-hand market I hope to use two earler harnesses spliced together. Its about time I had the bike up and running so I can get on with my next project and also try and get a Desmo Due racer sorted. Kev |

Thanks for the help and offers guys, I have nearly completed assessing the differences between the two front harness connections and am glad to report its only down to a couple of wires. Currently drawing up a Excel document listing the Pin outs for both the 998 and the 916 using Pin letter, wire colour and function it performs/supports. By the ned of work tomorrow I hope to be able to come home and reconfigure the 916 front harness to suit the 998s main harness, then it will be just a mater of lengthening it by about 70mm. Kev |
Well i've had the wire cutters and soldering iron out and have now had the engine turning over on the button, very slowly as the battery is as flat as a flat thing can be. I also had to reconfigure the clocks wiring harness to get the neutral light to work off the later engine. Once I'm happy that everything is wired correctly it will be time to lengthen the harness by 70mm or so required.
