New SPS into the fold

Hi All,

Just picked up my first Ducati, a 748SPS. It is a wonderus thing. Much fun to be had, even in the rain.

However I have a couple of niggles with it:

1) It oversteers horribly at low-medium speeds, Do they all do that?. Tyres/pressures are ok. How can I check the previous owner hasn't screwed all the geometry up.

2) I wear SMXPlus boots (with the Teflon heal) and I cant get the f**** side stand down. Have to reach down with my hand and get it covered in chain lube.

Cheers Rik...

Get yourself some grip-tape ... the stuff that's like sand paper with sticky tape on the other side ... and put a bit of that on.

I've got it on mine and it works fine with my SMX3 boots :D

Like this ... although it could do with being a little lower...

Rik,

Welcome - look out for the Surrey meets (and other rides). In the meantime, mine's a JD on the rocks from the virtual bar....

welcome aboard rik, you might be better setting it back to standard settings and try setting it up for you and your weight, could be the height adjuster at the rear or wrong fork angle. surely some one else whos good at the old suspesion setting will come along shortly but in the meantime have a look at this link: http://www.gostar-racing.com/informa...ion_set-up.htm

all the best.

Nice sps shame its a slow coluor:lol::lol::lol: though!

I can reach my stand easily and i have small feet is it to do with the different fairing for my later 748?

keefer 11-Jan-2005 20:04

the 748 a wonderfull handling machine. Check what tyres sizes are fitted.
Look behind the head stock. If it is on std angle the will be very little gap
( concentric).
The other setting will quicken the steering and can make it twichy for some?

Check out the rear shock, make sure it aint shot.

What tyre pressure are you running?

Thanks for welcome chaps. Some good advice there, I'm going to dig out the page in the manual that tells me what all the measurements should be.

Cheers Rik...

You bloody fool Rik! you`ve now contracted a rather nasty afliction the signs of which are manifested in an overwhelming desire to spend large amounts of money on a lump of metal!
