All us 03 boys, seen this....

At around a grand + vat, does look the biz though.

dickieducati 14-Jan-2005 14:18

no performance or handling gain though?

Jools 14-Jan-2005 14:21

Then again, if you're worried about this years fashion you could buy a yamakawahonduki and change the whole thing every year.

If I had a 03 999R and a grand to spend it'd be off to the CSS for some intensive rider training to see if I could get anywhere near the handling potential that the bog standard 03 swingarm could provide me with. Somehow I don't think I'd get anywhere near.

andyb 14-Jan-2005 14:28

Its a shiny thing!

andyb 14-Jan-2005 14:40

If you did have a 03 999r you wouldnt want to ride it to anywhere near the full potential of the swing arm as careless mistakes cost more.

I have learnt the hard way that as wonderful as the machines are, we are sadly only as good as we are, and my budget is only as big as it is.

That said, I wouldnt swap my 999r riding experiences back. If i wanted to go balls out i would buy something cheaper.

I have also learnt that the whole Ducati experience is more than just the riding! Or else we wouldnt be sat here writing this.
I enjoy the mechanical modification side of things as much as the riding. The swing arm thing is a commit to memory, and one day see if i can get one, first at a good price, and then second, enjoy the modifying and fitting.

Oh, and intensive rider training has come free..........;)

spartacus 14-Jan-2005 15:16

I assume that would also fit the 04 models aswell?

Sorry Andy I don't agree with you. I don't ride on the road anymore, too dangerous for me because I love riding fast N furious. I had the option of having a 999R 03 or 04 and I didn't want it. Not because I don't like it. But because the way we are being treated last years 999R next years 999S and so on and so on. I like the bling bits too, but I also like to see if they actually do anything to the handling. Usually you can only tell the difference at race speed, otherwise purley bling and after we have dressed her up to the hilt. We get tired of her and look for a fresh start.

I go along with Jools

andyb 15-Jan-2005 10:24

I totally agree with your point on the way we, the customer are being treated.
Ducati expect its hardened customer, and it will generally only be the hardened customer, to buy its £20000 exotica, (thankfully i didnt pay that) and then make a marketing move that strips up to 50% of the bikes value!
And just when the 04 boys think they are sitting pretty, they do it again! :flame:

That said, ive still got one hell of a bike, that is the mutts nutts to ride, even if I only achieve 50% of the bikes ability!

Working on Jools theory we should all be on 620 monsters educating ourselves to ride better/ faster. OOh thats a good idea?

My final point is that i dont believe there is any Ducati model owner on the site that hasn't invested in a bit of bling for their bike.

.and remember, you dont buy Bling bits to keep, you just have them on loan! and get your money back when you move on...

andyb 15-Jan-2005 10:34

Real McCoy 15-Jan-2005 10:36

andyb 15-Jan-2005 10:46

Real McCoy 15-Jan-2005 11:05

Well the bike will be ready in 3weeks

Its at ducati Leeds getting the frame /subframe powder coated

Wheels powder coated

04R swingarm fit

full Dream machine paint in secret colours (never seen one of these on road) :D

And a load more bling for the summer, the Fila clours are so yesterday :D

Just dont ask how much its gonna cost....will post piccies as soon as

bolds 15-Jan-2005 14:55

What linkage did you have to buy ? as there is no linkage listed in the components of the DP box section swingarm kit (which uses the 04 749/999R or 2005 other models swing arm)
The only other extra bits listed are the chain adjuster plates/bolts and a longer brake hose, a chain guard and various nuts/bolts.

Hmm,Ducati seem to have stopped doing the downloadable catalogues. Most of the stuff in the DP catalogue can be viewed on the Ducati website.Click on shopping, then accessories. You dont get much of a description tho.
Best bet is to get the printed book from your dealer. All the models have been combined in one book for this year.Lots of lovely stuff in there.:)
