Leather Repairs?

Can anybody recommend a place to repair and clean my one piece Dainese leathers?

I have a small hole in one forearm and it looks like I'll need one section replaced.

Personal recommendations would be great!

Ant there's a bloke up by me in the midlands !

he's a dianese authorised repairer. bit far i know but i can send u his number if ya want:D

Redruth 01-Feb-2005 00:21

Woman recommended by WJB/Mark of No Limits fame replaced my Dainese zips, mended stitching etc. Based in Edgware. V. reasonable. 70 squid for everything that needed doing, which was quite a lot because some of that stitching had been put under tremendous strain!

Not sure about the cleaning though. Can't you do that yourself? If I can clean my own leathers I'm damn sure you can clean yours.

I'll do a fetch and carry service from yours to Edgware this weekend if you promise undertake to rideout to Burnham with me in the spring.

antonye 01-Feb-2005 00:31

Thanks for the info Mav.

Just searching back through the old board and spotted the Edgeware one - got any more details like a name or address? Might be able to pop over there one lunchtime or something and drop them off which will be nice and easy.

I was just thinking it would be easier to have it all cleaned (properly - like inside and everything!) at once when it's being repaired.

It'll be a pleasure to take you for a ride anytime Ruth . . .

Have it somewhere but buggered if I can think where. U2U WJB - he can get on to Mark, No limits, who can get number from partner at Girls Bike Two, Hitchin who can give the number. She works in a shed (I think that is now spelt shead) in her back garden and does a damn fine job. I'd be happy to do some deliveries, Ant, as I plan to be out and about this weekend on my bike, weather permitting. Chelmsford is an easy run (Hertford, Royston, Epping etc - nice bimble) so it's not a problem. Just need to know if your leathers would be scrunch-uppable in a rucksack? :D

antonye 01-Feb-2005 00:44

Unfortunately they won't fit in a rucksac as they're one piece and very thick ... just like the owner!

Either that or a bloody big rucksac!

Redruth 01-Feb-2005 00:48

Would they fit in a courrier bag? I have one that used to carry a laptop, suit/shoes for work etc etc. It's pretty voluminous. This is not an insurmountable problem. So, U2U me your address. I'll pop over this Saturday, if that's convenient, collect your leathers. In the meantime, you ring whatsername, book the repair in, tell her I'll drop them off on Saturday p.m.

Would it appear to the ousider that I have nothing better to do with my free time :o:lol::lol:

antonye 01-Feb-2005 00:50

Lol! Let me find a number and get it booked in first, and then we'll sort it out just in case they can't do it or seomthing.

Thanks for your help...

Mike at MW top man in west ham
I took my leathers in to him for new lettering x 24, new slider patches and a clean, £120
He made them Ten years ago
He still puts zips in his leathers 25 years old
He makes for the boys in Blue but don,t hold that against him
Super safe for racin
He told me that human bone wears down at the rate of 4cm per second at 70mph on tarmac (not nice) his leathers work full stop.

antonye 01-Feb-2005 01:07

Got a phone number for them? Nice and local so could pop in there at the weekend...

antonye 01-Feb-2005 01:08

ericthered40 01-Feb-2005 01:13

Don't forget to give him a wave when you see him on the road he loves that

antonye 01-Feb-2005 01:20

Will take the suit down there this weekend and see what he says.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Phoned MW this morning but they've got a 3 month wait :(

You got some details for the Edgware place Ruth?

Monty 01-Feb-2005 18:27

Antonye, how about Hideout in north Essex near Saffron Walden-they used to do all Dainese repairs, they repaired the 'little' hole I made in my forearm on mine when I had my Brands off. They mended my leathers, the NHS mended me-but I took a lot longer to mend AND cost LOADS more money-Titanium isn't cheap you know..........:lol::lol:

Can't find the number in my old diary and I don't think I'm gonna be able to find it at home as half my stuff is now packed up waiting to move house.

Why not e-mail this shop, http://www.girlsbike2.com/ and ask for the number of the lady that repairs leathers working out of her shed in the garden. Can't remember her name, now, either. That old wives' tale about alcohol consumption destroying brain cells thing really must be true. :sing:

Don't know if it's just me....but i think I've got fat calf muscles, nowhere else, just the calves.

I'm needing to get my new Alpinestars adjusted as I can't zip them when they are anywhere near in place.

Ive been recommended a 'Mike the Stitch' in Aylesbury by the owner of Street Machine......

Don't know if he's called the 'Stitch' because of his needlework or his financial accumen.

I'll post his no. tomorrow........unless anyone else knows of someone around these 'ere parts?

Jas

 your not alone !

antonye 02-Feb-2005 11:15

Spoke to Hideout this morning and I can drop my leathers off at the show, so that'll save me a trip to drop them off, and will be easier to pick them up too.

Thanks guys - will let you know how the repair goes and cost as well.

FiscusFish 02-Feb-2005 11:47

You could try http://www.leather-workshop.co.uk/pages/homeframe.html They pick up from Ducati London South amongst other places and will post the leathers back to you if you ask them to.

Cost me £50 to get the arms shortened on my suit and had them back in 2 weeks.

The only problem is that DLS is a 2 hour drive for me, but I'm going to the show on sunday anyway, so I can drop them off there.

To pick them up at their shop in Saffron Waldon will be about a 30 min drive, so this seems the best option :D
