How many people on this group have the safety of 1000s of people in their hands every day Take regular abuse from their customers both verbal and physical. Have a very high risk of seeing someone use their vehicle as a means of suicide. Know that if they make one mistake or have one lack of concetration not only can it cause an horrific accident but can end their catreer if if no accident occurs. work most week-ends whilst others are out riding.
No I do not work on the underground but I do have nearly 40 years of railway experiance

How about bus drivers? They get paid less, work longer hours, and have the added complication of gears, steering and collecting money.

Nothing against tube workers, just the system itself. The excess above 'normalised' wages would be better utilised to improve the infrastructure.
