916 engine temperature What temp should my 916 run at? On the move it runs dead centre of gauge 180. In town the temp rises up to 3/4 up gauge 210. Is this normal? |
This topic came up not too long ago, I'm sure if you scan down a bit you'll find it. In answer to your question yes it's normal. Normal running temperature is approx 180, obviously if you're caught up in town this will rise, once it hit's a point the fan will then engage to cool things down. |
Errr Have I got different temp gauges than you. Mine runs at 80 and about 100 in town. Just over a 100 the fan comes on. Have UK bikes got Fahrenheit |
Thanks that has put my mind at rest. It would appear that some bikes have gauges in different scales. |
i never know what is farenheit and what is centigrade,my 888 ran at 80 and my 916 runs at about 180. last week in the cool it was under 180. in traffic it goes to about 220. i think the fan comes on at about 200. |
Thanks Peter your bike seems to run at the same temp as mine.Makes me feel a lot more at ease. |
The gauge is the same but one is in Farenheit (180 degrees for example) and the other Centigrade. If it was running at 180 centigrade you'd know about it  Either way if the needle points straight up in the middle of the gauge it's up to normal running temperature. 3/4 for in town if it's getting a bit warm any more and it's getting a bit too hot. Just make sure your coolant filler tank is topped up. If not it may have a split in it (common problem). |

Thats about the same as I get with my 998 but I can get it to run a bit cooler by running a fairing V-piece without any gauze on it. |
I think I will flush out the system and fill it with fresh coolant. Thanks. |
