Sky - expensive, but what are the alternatives

I could live without eveything on the Sky box except Eurosport. I've recently been thinking about alternatives. The two that make the most sense are:

1. Freeview plus Top up TV. One off payment for box, £20 sign on fee for TuTV (Doh) and the £8 per month

2. Get an old analogue sat box of fleabay and watch Eurosport form free.

Option two is clearly the cheapest, but it has it's limitations. No 5th Gear etc....

Any other possibilites???????

Rgds, Rob

i think the free view stuff is suppose to be available on sat soon.
you could get yourself kitted with a digital sat receiver.
probably not the easiest/cheapest though...
i'd go terestrial freeview.
i used to be with ntl cable tv.. i cannot recommend them.

Dump the box and watch MotoGP online at http://www.motogp.com/
I think it works out at €30 per year for access to all the content.

We tried the freeview thing but the reception in our area is abysmal, so went back to Sky. I know it's expensive, but there is always *something* on worth watching which is more than can be said for the terrestrial 4.5 channels!

I think that Eurosport might be going off the old analogue satellite soon as well, or at least the audio feed is only going to be in German.

Sky are launching their own freeview equivalent, which might be worth seeing if that's any cheaper: http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/

ive downgraded my sky,i wasnt watching sports 1,2,3 (football).eurosport is free,i think current package is £15-£20? fed up paying £30-£40 then £7 a game on the footie. apart from that my team (villa) wasnt winning.i would rather watch my wifes son (charlie) play for his under 8 side.

Once your year contract is up you can downgrade to a free channels only service through the satelite dish. Ask sky for a new card. This should give you all the free to air channels inc eurosport.

Herb,

The free to air channels don't include Eurosport. You can only get that with the new pick and mix selections. Min' is two at £15 month

I'm sure that Sky's cheapest package is less than that...

<fx: googles>

Here ya go - get all the free channels and then pick 2 packages (one of which includes Eurosport) for £15 pm.

I would go for freeview and have. Sagem box with a slot is £49 and £8 a month.

sky do a free sat pack
though they dont advertise it
if you phone ythem up and ask they'll tell you all about it
you get all the free channels except e4? plus quite a few others
you do not get the free instalation though. it cost me £150 for the box dish and installation
the only other cost they mentioned is that if you need a new sky card it's a fiver

Ozz 08-Nov-2005 20:43

You also don't get eurosport:
