Cuban Mojito Crisis

Off to Cuba with my Mum on Wednesday morning and need some info about this particular cocktail as I'm not a coktail drinker but clearly it would be rude not to partake, whilst I'm in Hemingway country :D:D

2 main bits of information I need

1) how many can you safely drink without falling over and
2) at what time in the morning is it respectable to start?

I don't want to be found drunk in charge of a woman with a walking stick so sensible replies (yeah, right ) if you can manage it :D:D:D

ans1.) Probably depends on how many flaming sambucas you strat with.

ans2. )I think the sun has to be over the yard arm.

Q. will the walking stick be a large Cuban Cigar

Have fun I have heard its a nice destination

Mojito - one of my favourites! You shouldn't worry about falling over drinking them, simply sit down in a nice comfy chair with friends as I always finds that works best. As for when to start, it's best if you never stop!

OOoh Mojito, yes please Ruth

its never safe to start drinking them, Cuban bars that are open late usually don't have many places to collapse so you have to dance as well and this continues into the morning when its best to stop and go to bed and prepare yourself for the next night......

Sound advice! Thanks Ant.

YMFB - good point on the flaming sambucas - will bear that in mind.

Disappointed on the sun/yard arm concept. But then I've happily flouted that particular tradition on many occasions and don't consider it a plank walking offence :D:alien:

I'm all misty eyed here but ... There is an ANZAC tradition that the Australian officers used to give the diggers nips of rum before they sent them out of the trenches to their almost certain deaths. On ANZAC day the tradition of a 'gunfire' breakfast was born and has carried on since.

The 'gunfire' breakfast consists of being woken up by automatic gunfire (blanks) at about 4am, partaking in rum and coffee and standing around bullshitting about how hard you are etc ...

ANZAC day meant to soldiers in Aus that on this one day the soldiers were socially accepted and respected and no soldier went home without being absolutely trolleyed! The civilians would buy anyone in uniform a drink to pay their respects to those who gave their lives to defend the freedom of a newly formed nation. I have spent many an ANZAC day absolutely shitfaced (well you start drinking rum at 4am!) and I never made it past 4pm without sleeping at some point.

Ruth, the point of this story is that you just drink when you want, do what you want because life is too short to worry about what other people think. Do what you want and enjoy!

Tony, you are spot on. Gizmo, I am having to fit my drinking in around a lot of sightseeing as this is a touring rather than a beach holiday so I've decided to stick to the yard arm rule but folllow Eric's advice and get Mum off to bed early. I'm thinking 7 o'clock isn't too early for her :devil::devil:

As usual, I haven't even started packing yet so must now log off and crack on - feeling as excited as a little girl on Christmas Eve :sing::sing:

Wishing you all a fab Christmas and New year.

Love
Ruth xx:sing::sing:
