As a fully paid up member of the RSPB, I think that is extremely cruel.

Think of the anguish all my little feathered friends would suffer if that scraggy ball of fluff launched itself out of the back door into the garden at Warp Factor 10..

I think the above suggestion of sitting on the lid until all the noise stops is more fitting.

Unless of course my mate Frodo was sat in the garden, then I'd say "bring it on Cat"

Guy, meet Geronimo-he has been known to bring home a fully grown mallard to play with. How do I know? I had to let the dam thing out again in the morning-how the hell he got it through the catflap I will never know. He also has a penchant for killing squirrels-doesn't play with them, just kills them and lays the bodies on the bottom of the stairs.

By the way I love Raptors, used to keep a tawney owl when I was much younger. One of my favourite memories is hunting with a Harris Hawk about 6 years ago-fabulous bird.
