foreign trip need advice from anyone who has done similar am thinking of going to the ducati factory (in italy) surprise surprise by bike want to take in twisties and good roads seemed to me best route would be from bilbao / santander and then across top of spain then down into italy could do it in 2 days solid 3 days taking it easy anyone got experience of this ? would probably try get a ferry out of italy somewhere and back to blighty thinking next summer ish any help or suggestions? thanks in advance |
Sort of relevant. I rode from Florence up the SS65 to Bologna to go to the factory, it is a stunning road once you get about 10km out of the city, goes for about 45-50 miles (go through a few small towns), just re-surfaced, no traffic and hardly any straight bits. if you have time check it out, then you can detour over to the track at Mugello not far off this road. |
If you are thinking of going all that way on a bike and you're talking about next summer-ish you could do worse than going to World Ducati Week. I don't think dates are announced yet but as soon as they are there will be several trips arranged via this site |
The route your suggesting would be OK but even if you're going to attempt in in 3 days you'll be wasting some of the best fun in Europe. The trip W to E across Italy can be a bit of a trial too. In that area, it seem that most of the best (read fun for bikes) road run N to S. Think the eqivalant of the A1, M5, M1 and M6 and you'll get an idea of the roads from Genoa/Turin to Bologna. if you get off the Santander ferry, spend a day In the Picos, and a few days more coming over Pyrennees, the Massif central and the Alps. Done it both ways. This year, channel over the Alps and across the bread pan of Italy. Visted Ferrari, Bimota and Ducati and a WSB round too. Rgds, Rob |
Dover-Calais, then back road to Lille, follow for Lux and run the old road down to Thionville, Overnight at Colmar, then cross the swiss boarder at Basel and transit swiss down to Chiaso. From there nail it on the Auto route all the way down to the factory ! easy peasey ! lol Or Auto route down France to Grenoble ! pick up N85 route Nepoleon ! (AWESOME) then into Monaco and follow coast of the Med, cut across from san remo, and then on the way back from the factory, go Via the Dolomits and sneak up through Cortina, Monza, etc etc boats are for fishing and sailing ! LOL Roads for Riding !!!!!! Or join RR,Road Raiders ! lol joking apart mate, whatever route you do Enjoy !! mav |
ps i can Imagine someone frantically getting their map out wondering which way does MAV go????? no need for maps I have SatMav ! loll |
