Cheers Bobby boy, all makes sense to me. I've already got the carpet up upstairs and the floorboards do run parallel to the wall so looks like solution no.1 is the way to go. I'll print it out and have a proper read through and see how I go. I'll get back to you if I need any further info. Cheers again
