| The Police can't simply note your reg down, as a mistake could be made. Evidence is needed to prove it was you, like a photo. So a reg number written on paper is not enough, it would not stand up in court especially if you can prove you were 100 miles away at the time. If they do not have a picture then tell them to sing. They will be on dodgy ground even if they have a picture if you can prove you were elsewhere, ask to see the photo, no photo = no evidence.
