Not wanting to put more of your heard-earned into Castrol's coffers, but if you're happy with their product (as am I), then why not think about their Chain Cleaner. It's excellent stuff and brings my gold chain up like new. and clears all the crap out in one easy application ready for re-applying the wax.
On the penetration front, it's best to apply the wax straight after a ride, when the chain's warmer. I apply it down the middle (whilst turning the rear wheel) and then over the links on either side. I do this at the point where the inside face meets the rear sprocket.
The forces involved in the chain rotating over the sprockets at high speed should force the wax right through the links to the outer edge thus offering complete coverage/penetration. |
