Anyone else *not* got a garage?

ak47's "Dilemma" thread (999 v. 749) got me thinking about insurance...

Way back when, when I bought the 748, my understanding was that the 996/998 was Group 17, and the 748 Group 15. Furthermore, that the brick-type garage was pretty well mandatory for Group 17 bikes, and I wouldn't get cover without one. As I have no garage, and am unlikely to have one in the foreseeable future, I took it that Group 17 bikes were in general out of the question for me. I have a ground anchor cast in my back yard, under the bedroom window. In my view that's as secure, if not more so, that a separate garage. But insurance companies don't seem to see it that way.

Don't get me wrong: I'm very happy with my bike, and it's still way ‘more bike than I am rider’. So I certainly don't "need" anything bigger. But as the prices of 7448/996/998's seem to be falling fast these days, maybe a 996 or some such wouldn't be out of the question at some point in the future.

So does anyone run a litre bike without a garage?

For reference my basic premium for the 748 (pre- legal gubbins and breakdown cover) is about £220.

TIA
