At the risk of being corrected by someone more knowledable than me (not hard admittedly)

The sequence of top of the range, homologation specials for WSB racing was as follows, and you will see where the SP3 fits in. Tuned engines, higher spec suspension and brakes than the standard models of the respective years.

916 SP in 1994
916 SP2 in 1995
916 SP3 in 1996
916 SPS in 1997 and 1998
996 SPS in 1999 and 2000

Some people believe the year 2000 SPS with Ohlins forks was the best, whereas others, Nelly at Cornerspeed believe the SP3 is the most collectable with the most frenetic engine of the pre stretta engines.

Hope that explains things.

And Harv748 has one sitting in his garage-used to belong to my mate Cameron who now lives in Hawaii and couldn't take it with him-emissions and stuff-bloody Americans. As I am sure Harv will be only to glad to confirm the bike is an absolute animal, rides like a 916 until you get to about 7000 rpm and then it takes of like someone stuck an exocet up the exhaust, revs to 11500! and makes power all the way up there. I sold it for Cam when he moved-still regret not keeping it myself.
