| I had a 900SS with a similar problem. The wiring to the ignition switch had been pinched by the lock stops and was intermittent.
Try moving the wiring around with the ignition on and see if the electrics cut out. I had to remove the terminal block, pull off the cable shroud and splice the damaged wire.
