If its attached to the house it will have to comply with building regulations regarding fire proofing,ventilation etc which adds to the cost.If its detached,distance varies depending on local authority,then as long as it doesnt exceed a certain floor area or height,again depends on local authority its no problem.All building control offices will give free advice.Brick matching will determine the material cost,especially if its on the front elevation,face brick prices/availability vary wildly.A good job is reflected if you sell in the future.
