I've done it several times with no damage at all. You'll make a bigger mess with the dremel IMO. The threaded portion of the bolt will remain 2 or 3mm proud of the spring post. As the head of the bolt gets drilled out, the spring pressure will finish the job off for you.
Take your time and it'll be fine. You'll save the cap and spring to.
