| Good man - yep - caliper spacing will be 40mm mounts, you can get adapters to use a more modern 65mm caliper.
Strangely, my calves are big too from too many years of cycling etc and I occasionally have probs with boots - trying them first is a MUST before ordering online for stuff.
1. indicator lense - MOT fail if it shows white light from memory.
2. Clutch - try an inspect / clean to start with.
