Yep,I know you have a 600 but the 750SS is a very similar bike and the manuals should tell you all you need.
Haynes also do a manual that covers all SS models.(no.3290)You can get them at any decent bike shop or the larger Halfords stores.
AFAIK,the sidestand warning light on a 600SS is just that,...i.e a light warning you the stand is down.I dont think Ducati fitted cut-out switches to that model.
There should be a green neutral light on the dash.(Top left on the idiot light panel,if my memory is correct)
If yours is not working it could be just a blown bulb or a faulty switch.(The switch is in the back of the gearbox,between the engine and swingarm)
