I might be wrong, but from my experience with racecar suspension design. I think the rocking lever is set/adjusted to give a rocker ratio that changes the rising/falling rate. I wanted rear ride height, thus the added length of the hoop.

That's the way they do the hose on many of the period 8xx race bikes. I could have wrapped it right around the top of the swing arn and down, anti clockwise, (I used to have it that way on the other floater) but I fancied the "rep" look with the mini caliper.
