On a positive note i'd estimate that the handle weighs approximately 2kg and at the current rate of £70 per tonne for waste steel/iron you should comfortably recoup a grand total of approximately 14pence for the handle at your local scrap merchant.

I think the idea of the rubber grip is to prevent damage to your wheel when you are putting 160 odd or whatever Nm force through it when fitting / removing the nut? That said you dont need it if you have another person to hold the back brake on!
