Ouch. How do all the classic car owners go on then? The legislation that relates to this is Regulation 40 of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999 which provides for a motor vehicle to be fitted with a speedometer which indicates speed both in miles per hour and kilometres per hour, either simultaneously or, if required, separately. As it is a 1999 act, it was probably law in 2000/1 or even later. I can't see how they can make such a requirement retrospective. On the other hand most of the cars in Eire will have MPH speedos with small KPH digits. Bet they are having fun with someone confusing 110kph with 110mph!!!! When was your bike first reg'd? There must be some exemption for vehicles registered before Jan 20 when Eire introduced Km's. Hope you get it sorted quickly either way. |
