| yup - I'm not convinced about the sleeve idea either and apart from the chew of changing the bearings I imagine the cost of a sleeve v the bearings will be the same anyways (I have a superb local bearing stockist).
The conical spacer MUST be fitted (at least on my 900ss OEM carrier) or else the bearing housing will be in contact with the swingarm.
