On later models (post 1995) 15/41 is the standard 600SS gearing and 15/43 is standard for a Monster. I usually go for 15/42 with the ability to go one tooth either way on the back sprocket, depending on what conditions are like and how long the straights are on the track.
Through the box I shift just after the needle has passed 8k and in top it gets reved as far as I can get it to go.

As for Andys PM asking about sump plugs
On the DD bike I have a standard one that I drilled for the lockwire and on the Minitwin I have a Tecmoto one

Other than Moto2 I don't know who else does sump plugs suitable for lock wiring
